Any1 know what check engine light on and flashing cruise light means? :( My AP won't let me read the code, it says I need 2 update my firmware. I have a generic scan tool I'll have 2 see if that'll give me something. I back out of a parking space and as soon as I pull forward cel comes on then the cruise flashes and it almost stalled at a redlight felt the whole car shaking. Feels like a cylinder is missing. I thought maybe its a clogged fuel filter so I took the back seat out and the access panel off and disc. all the fuel lines and 1 of 'em had mad pressure in it and the electrical line 2 the pump was disc. Book I have says the fuel filter should be replaced every 30k miles and my car has almost 50k miles and doesn't look lilke that access panel was ever off cuz it had a good seal when I pryed it off. So I think the fuel filter has almost 50k miles on it but if thats the case why is there so much fuel pressurized in that 1 line? Spark plug/s could be fouled thats another troubleshooting possibility according to the book I have. Thats a PITA I haven't done yet either. So now I h8 my car.

Don't auto parts stores can pull codes for free? Like checkers, advance, napa?

havanisda
03-15-2008, 06:31 PM
Yea but I wouldn't even wanna drive it to a parts store thats how bad it is. I just read that a flashing cruise just means your cruise is disabled cuz u have a a cel.

I didn't know theres a built-in way 2 pull codes. Theres apparently 2 white wires(a male & female) taped together under the dash w/blue tape. Behind the fuse panel door @ drivers left knee. Once these white plugs are plugged together, turn your ignition to on and depress your trip
button once DURING THE NEEDLE SWEEP. Then depress the trip button to step through your recorded codes.

Some guy on .com said his mom has an 05 Forester and she had 2 emission sensors fail. That's also listed as a possible cause 4 my "stumbling" on acceleration. :crash:

Try that method. I just found that as well.

I keep readin about this vacuum hose under the TMIC. I did have my TMIC off 2 days ago 2 install my Cobb turbo heat shield. I drove it like 100 miles after that but I guess its possible I bumped that hose when reinstalling the TMIC not completely off but close and then it somehow vibrated off the rest of the way. :Dunno:

^ Pull the code, but the vac. hoses are a good bet in your case, since it fits the symptoms, and also since you did pull the TMIC recently.

Look for a blue (typically this color, or white) triple/T fitting. If one of he hoses slipped off, that'll do it. Once you get the hose(s) back on, ZipTie them, and they'll stay on for-good, without having to worry about glues/cleanup should you ever need to service this area.

I still can't pull a code using a universal scan tool which I used on domestics and imports in the past w/100% accuracy. I'll have 2 look up a firmware update 4 my AP cuz thats what it says when I try to pull a code w/that. As 4 the 2 white connectors under the fuse panel I think I found 1 but didn't see the other 1. Maybe I'll try 2morrow. I spent enuf time in the garage 2day. I did have a small hose off @ the T which 4 some reason didn't have a mini hose clamp on it like the other 2 so stuck that back on. Still same problem so I put new sparkplugs in. Still didn't help. Plug change was due in 10k miles neway. I'll never do that again. Some guy on .com said he had 3 injectors replaced b4 he hit 35k miles. I think its either that or a bad coil pack. 2b continued.

Finally got a scan. My stepsis' bf has a fancy schmany scanner and it says," cylinder 2 misfire". So I assume thats a bad coil pack. Luckily thats the easiest coil pack 2 get 2. I'll be buying/ordering 1 2morrow.

han
03-16-2008, 03:44 PM
It could also be a fuel injector. I would swap #2 coil with another coil and see if the misfire changes to that cylinder. Then it would definitely be a coil. BUt if the mifire is still at #2 after swaping the coil, then it can possibly be an injector.

Good idea Han but I already had my intake back on @ that point and I had a helluva time gettin my Typhoon back on 4 some reason & I definitley wasn't takin that back 1 off again :censored: . I'll just get the coil pack and if thats not the problem I'll just keep it(1 of 'em is bound 2 fail eventually & I think they're all the same)& get a new injector.

havanisda
03-17-2008, 10:01 AM
Well u can't even get a coil pack thru a parts place(Autozone, Napa, Advance Auto). So gotta go thru the stealership. I got 2 near me and the cheaper price is just over $100 so its supposed 2b here wed. We'll see if that works.

havanisda
03-20-2008, 08:48 PM
It wasn't the coil pack. I shoulda checked the injector but I never replaced an injector on any car I ever had at any mileage. Neway the stealership wants $140/injector. So I called KoP they want less than $90 so I got 1 from them & 2nd day aired it, it should be here saturday. So w/tax(KoP's in the same state as me) and 2nd day air shipping they still saved me about $20 and a 40 mile round trip 2 the stealer AND I'm getting it sooner.

Yeah. Hopefully the injector is the culprit now.

Dejavu I just bought an AP v1 and got the same thing ... cel & blinking cruise light.
No code came up on the AP. The car ran fine. Then after driving it to work for an hour , leaving it sit for about three hours. When I got back in to drive home, the lights were all back to normal.:Dunno::Dunno:
After a couple of days they are still all normal.

Problem solved. Replaced the injector and all is well again. But why did the injector fail? Is it just a matter of time til the other 3 fail? Its not the most expensive thing 2 replace but @ $100 a pop its not cheap either.

Glad to hear you fix the problem. Just like any mechanical part, some are defective and some just wear out faster than others. :Dunno:

Glad to hear you fix the problem. Just like any mechanical part, some are defective and some just wear out faster than others. :Dunno: I understand that mechanical parts fail but I been driving over 15 yrs and I've had foreign & domestic cars and plenty had over 100k miles. This car is just under 50k miles and is the most expensive car I've ever owned. I've never had a an injector fail. This shouldn't happen. Its not like its just my car and its a fluke cuz on .com I read page after page of failed injectors & coil packs.

Interesting, I didn't know the LGTs had this problem. I'm rolling onto 50K here soon and the only problem I've encounter is the fan relay issue, which I'm still dealing with.

Dookie
03-22-2008, 10:18 AM
Yes. Now once the car is warmed up, the fan will turn on and stay on until I turn it off. I already replaced the relay a few weeks back and still didn't fix the problem. Prob. the ECU needs to be replaced again, just haven't had the time to take it in yet.

But replacing the ECU once and then(if your right) having 2 replace it a 2nd time just doesn't make sense 2 me.

I suspect overboost. Or maybe the injectors were meant for N/A cars, and subaru just made them overwork with the turbos... Or maybe...

so... that means 3 strikes and out right? wow. wouldn't an injector be under powertrain 60k warranty? now that i think about it, it might be??

Lexus is250 is hot. a friend almost got one from his parents to buy new one, but didn't, and he got all pissed and told them he was going to run away and his parents are like, go ahead, less money to spend! PUHAHA!!!!

Maybe I won't get an IS250 awd. They're 6" shorter and 6" more narrow than an LGT yet still weigh 240lbs more. The engine is a 2.5L V6 w/204 hp 185 tq. So my LGT is almost 100 hp more and 240 lbs lighter. I don't think I'd be happy w/that performance. The IS350 is nice, 3.5V6 w/306 hp 277 tq, claimed 0-60 in 5.6 secs, but u can't get awd in that.

Wonder what this means: Lexus Premium Sound System with Automatic Sound Levelizer (ASL) Is that when the speed increases thus increasing interior sound, the stereo volume will also increases to match cabin noise? And this: Lexus Personalized Settings (LPS) to allow certain electronic settings to be tailored to owner preference (programmable by Lexus dealers).

OMG Lexus will kill u w/option prices. Upgraded stereo $4k, wheel locks $73, trunk mats $73 cargo net $64.  I guess people that r buying this car w/a base price of $56k don't care about that tho.

The ISF is crazy...it's definitely gonna play a good game with the M-series and S-series Germans. But then again, it's also priced to-match.

That's the trouble with the current-generation turbocharged Legacys. Dollar-for-dollar, particularly when upgraded even mildly (i.e. "Stage II"), it is so much performance for the money (figuring that the typical "Stage II" budget is anywhere from another $1K to $3K, depending on how far one wishes to pursue things, use of secondary-market components, etc.) that nothing else even comes close. I truly think that the LGT has spoiled me.

Yes, there's a lot of nicer cars out there that I could "step up" to in the near future - but it's only so in terms of refinement, aesthetics, and features - I am very, very hard-pressed to find anything sub-$50K (when all's said and done) that will come anywhere near the performance that my current "Stage II" LGT gives me.

Unfortunately, last I checked, the piggy-bank doesn't allow me to afford an IS-F, M5/M3 sedan, S6/RS4, AMG, without dipping into Anna's college bank.

----

Mike, I'm honestly sorry you're seeing such pestering problems. :(

For me, the LGT has been one of the most - if not the most - reliable vehicles.

I know that my years on the road isn't exactly too many (since only 1991), and I come from a background of exclusively DSMs ( which themselves aren't the most reliable vehicles ever  ), but factoring in my parents', in-laws', and my wife's various vehicles - including multiple examples of Acura, Honda, Lexus, Toyota, Nissan, and Infiniti - I honestly would have to say that our current Subarus are the only ones which have been so dead reliable.

Unfortunately, I think, there is just so much variability when it comes to what rolls off the factory floor.

Hopefully, Mike, your less-than-optimal components, the "Friday afternoon specials," have all worn out, and you're on your way to enjoying many, many trouble-free days. :)

I'm not throwin in the towel yet Allen. I'm just saying I've owned much cheaper(as in inexpensive) cars like Toyotas, Hondas/Acuras that had double the mileage my LGT and when new cost a lot less & I never had 2 replace anything. This is the most expensive car based on MSRP I've ever had. So I expect the quality to be there 4 that money. I read on .com that 3 people had their turbo die @ 58k miles. I'm @ 49k miles so that worries me. I bought used but I have a 2 yr unlimited mileage powertrain warranty so if mine goes then it would be under warranty but I have so much done 2 my car now I can't return it back 2 stock anymore. I don't even have the stock intake. You know as well as I do the 1st thing they see when they pop the hood is K&N Typhoon. Then they could refuse a warranty fix and I g2g2 court over this so they can try 2 prove my mods caused a turbo failure.

^ Ah! I see where you're coming from.

I definitely feel your pain. :(

This is the most expensive car - MSRP/paid price - that I've owned, too. And while I did have high hopes for its durability/reliability, that was mainly based on the fact that "it's a Subaru."

Looking at friends' BMWs and Audis, I cringe to own such vehicles, particularly either upgraded or out-of-warranty (i.e. second-hand).
