i just bought my 05 legacy gt on saturday. comparing my legacy to my buddy's 07 wrx tr, my clutch is ALOT firmer, and the shifter seems tighter to get into gears.
are the stock clutches in the legacy's very firm from factory? im wondering if there is an aftermarket clutch in there. the leg was getting tired when i first started driving it, but now im getting used to it

they are firm! its a good sign that you still have a good clutch in it. when your clutch wears out it gets mushy like mine right now! but i ordered an act sprung 6 puck today! stoked!!!!! but to answer your question the lgt's clutch pedal is firm from the factory.

It's hard to tell if you have an aftermarket clutch. Did you buy the car from a dealership or private sale?
If it's hard to get into gear, I would suspect the wrong trany fluid weight was used. Change the fluid using the recommended weight for the car. I made this mistake once, where I put a thicker weight in and the gear shift would not engage well until the trany was warmed up.

I've been told by several others that yes, the clutch is on the firm side - and what's more, that depending on the particular car, it can be firmer than others.
I come from a DSM background in which the ACT2600 was my choice, and I daily-drove with it, in stop-and-go conditions, so I didn't notice, at all.
But of the several people who've driven my LGT, everyone's questioned whether or not I had an aftermarket clutch in-place.
It also must be hella cold in WI, now. ;) This can make the shifting a bit reluctant, until fluids come to-temp. If you see undue difficulty, though, like Dookie said, you should change out the fluids, just in case.
Similarly, check with the vehicle's previous owner or dealership as to whether the clutch is still stock, just to be sure.
