View Full Version : New control arms at 30,000K -- Normal?

I rather think not. I'm looking at an 05 Legacy GT normal trim wagon with 54,000 km on the clock. 5MT. It is held by a high-end dealer who wants $CAN 20,000 for it (about $US 16,000). The zillion point inspection sheet shows that they replaced both control arms in a pre-sale service. (also injectors and plugs). The sales guy points to this as a positive (evidence of their thorough prep) but I see the opposite.

Is their some normal reason control arms would be bad so early? If not, I think it would be prudent to have an independent subaru mechanic look the car over carefully for chassis damage or evidence of abuse. Of course this would be a good idea anyway.

At only $13K per year I think this must have been a city car. Therefore, I could expect exhaust work fairly soon. Tires have lots of tread, but badly curbed on the passenger side, and the brakes are original at 40% so at the very least a fluid change.

It went through its 50,000km major service at a dealership about a year ago.

Question to the experts -- any red flags that you see here?

Thanks. This is my first post in this forum -- my experience is with the older subaru line for the most part.

New control arms? That tells me that the suspension was damaged at one point. I would ask the dealer for more information about why these parts where changed.

Injectors didn't have to be changed either, but if they did, more power to you.

Sparkplugs is ok to change at this mileage.

The car probably hit a major road hazard and like Dookie said damaged the suspension

I had an injector fail around 50K.
