Dont want to sound like a newbe but kinda new to the awd game... searched and got many diff responses. I know how to launch, and that there is a thread about launching, but i want to know how bad it is for the car. how many of you launch your cars? I know its not good for the car, but I want to know how bad is it for the trans/clutch/car? anybody have problems from launching at the track? or just launching on the street? i did it once and prob wont do it ever again... good way to get off the line but it just feels bad http://legacygt.com/forums/images/smilies/spin.gif please teach me your knowelge of launching!

Well its terrible for your rear dif and driveshaft. If you must get a good start, bring your car 2 4000rpm and feather the clutch. Dont just dump it.
Feathering your clutch will wear that out very very fast, but clutches are cheaper then your rear dif.
I dont launch my car, and only feathered it like 10 times(i went 2 the drag strip) and i used my clutch up, and had 2 buy a act stage2+
So i would recomend just be good 2 your car and your car will be good 2 u.

lol yea thats what i figured i might have released the clutch a lil fast because i heard a bucking noise from the rear. my clutch and flywheel have like 4K miles on them. Just wanted to see what happend to other peopls lgt's from launching.

i toasted my act stage 2 clutch after 9k miles because of the same thing 2 times at the drags. and now i have a 6 puck sprung stage 3 its harsh but it puts it down.. just be careful like urabus said becuse the clutch is nothing compared to the rear diff and trans.
I've launched my LGT once, and I expected it to give up the ghost. However, it held the power and surprised me nicely. :)
However I used to launch my DSMs at 6500 rpm by just backing the clutch pedal out quickly. When you are in that mindset, the mantra is: "Clutch is a fuse ... clutch is a fuse ... clutch is a fuse..." ACT 2600's were the s h i t back then.

I'm, surprisingly, still on the stock clutch.
I slip-launch at around 3K to 4K RPM about probably around once a month, on-average - I've done that for the past 4 years....more so during the first two years of ownership, when my commute took a different route.
I've been very, very lucky.
I launched once at around 6K. Terrible clutch-smell, but boy was that fun.

^ IIRC, that guy did something like 9 to 12 launches in a row (I think that Keefee on .com was the first one to link to those vids).......the ones prior to this are very entertaining.

ya i had seen them, he was asking for trouble.
Is it worse for you 2 do it 10 times back 2 back then 2 do it once a week for 10 weeks?

^ I honestly don't know - although I would think that in doing the launches back-to-back, you'd be adding more heat, more quickly, to the system, and thus may be accelerating potential damage?
The caveat to my thinking like that is that I'm definitely no engineer. :) I took "physics for poets" when I was in college. :o

Let just say doing launches, like the one in the video, is not good to any stock tranny or rear dif. Something is going to give very quickly. It's different if you have a purpose built drag car.
