i would just like to start out here by letting everyone know im not a Suby owner, sorry never had the pleasure. (maybe some day)
however a lady i work with has a 95 (i believe, im no suby guy) Legacy AWD and she asked if i could drive it around the block to see if i could figure out what was up with it. she said it was wanting to pull to the right at around 30-40 mph and that she had taken it in to a shop to get aligned and they found nothing wrong with the front end and she said it was making noises from the rear on occasion. well after i took a peek at the rear end to make sure the pull wasnt bushing deflection, i took it for a spin around the parking lot weaving back and forth to be sure. it scooted along great, no problems. i got it up to around 20 and stopped with the E brake and there was no shudder or noise so its not the brakes hanging up.
after work we went for a drive and once i got it out onto the road i immediatly knew what she was talking about. it felt a little like bushing deflection but the pull was more of an over steer feeling. like the turning feeling you get with cutting brakes (if anyones every used those) so im pretty sure its the Diff. when i mentioned this she said that her husband had taken it in to get serviced at one point and they quote "put in a new rear end because there were shavings in it". and later i guess she said they were having problems with it and took it back in and the shop replaced a wheel bearing to remedy it, which does not sound right at all.
shes definantly the kind of car owner that easily could have been scammed at a shop, i mean she told me that a Japanese Auto place had charged her $1600 to swap out her fuel injectors :eek:, now like i said im not a suby guy and parts could be more than im thinking but that just seems wrong.
well any way any thoughts on this problem? anyone have the same issue? im thinking that the diff is locking up and making the right side slow down causing the wandering pull. i could be way off but thats just my mechanical brain working.
thanks for any help
