*edit* CoNfirmation
Our bolt pattern is 5X100 and offset is a minimum of +55, right?
Anything else I should know about buying wheels for a Legacy? I'm saving up to do this in the spring.
Check out this sweet website too: www.wheeldude.com

This is a wheel they list for our cars, but it says the offset is only +48mm. So I guess that's okay then?

...and how secure are spline-drive lugs? I have four security lugnuts already, but I know spline-drive has its benefits.
wheeldude recommends these: http://www.wheeldude.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=5670

Hey bro,
The stats you have on the factory rims are correct, and have been confirmed by visual examination. 5x100 pattern, 17x7, +55.
I'm not sure about the minimum that you can go, as there's also suspension concerns (i.e. what you may or may not have done), along with rim and tire selection issues. My winter setup, for example, is a 17x7.5 rim, +45 offset, with 225/45/17 tires. I have no rubbing on my sedan, which uses iON SportSpec lowering springs.
Center bore will need to be 56 mm or larger - with larger bores *sometimes* needing the use of hub-centric centering rings (exception is with conical lug seating, which "self-centers").
Lug nuts need to be 12 mm x 1.25 mm threading. Closed or open-ended depends on the mounting thickness of your rims.
As for those McGard spline-drives, that's virtually the standard used on our LGTs. Many of us like them. The only thing you've got to be careful of is on the locker, you'll want to apply enough inward pressure so that their locking face does not strip, when you're undoing them. Even the colored ones are very, very durable.

^^^ Great info as always TSi !! You're a wealth of knowledge.
When I asked about the security of the spline-drives, I meant pertaining to theft. Is it easy to steal my wheels with spline-drives? I have four security lug nuts right now.
And what is this about the locker? What is that? And when you say "inward pressure", do you mean I push on the t-bar while I turn it? Sorry if these are dumb questions.
Also, after many hours of exhaustive research and feedback from the local SCCA guys, I've decided to go with 17X8 wheels and 235/45 tires. Do you have any experience with the fitment of this size tire? I'll be going with these wheels: http://www.wheeldude.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=5575 ...and these tires: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes.jsp?make=Dunlop&model=Direzza+Sport+Z1+Star+Spec because they come highly recommended for AutoX.

Not at all - just a little that I do know, that's all. :o:)

Unknown - that (theft) is not my specialty....and truthfully, if someone force-fit a socket over the spline-drives, including the locking nut, I think they should be capable of being rather easily disengaged.
At the same time, I also don't know how much added security other setups would give you, in relation.
Dunno..... :o

Not dumb at all! Just hard to communicate our thoughts in this electronic manner, that's all! ;)
Yes, you'll need to exert pressure "in," towards the hub, as you initially disengage the locking nut (1 per wheel, unless you specifically go after more). The lock engagement surface is shallow, and it is possible to strip this surface.

Unfortunately, no. :o

The Star-Specs recently won [i]Car&Drive[/]'s "affordable summer tires shoot-out" (forgot exact title), besting nearly a dozen competitors.

Cool. One more question ;)
...So if I buy a set of spline-drive lugs from wheeldude.com, then they should come with one locking nut per wheel?

^ That should be the case - I'd ask the vendor, just to be sure.
I got mine from SummitRacing, local to me.
