I am curious if anyone can tell me if Cobb is the way to go here, and is this an easy mod? I am guessing it should be done by a professional.

A short throw is almost a must with these cars. Mine came with an STI short throw part, and after driving a friends car which had the stock shifter his felt like driving an 18 wheeler. :)

Cobb makes good parts, and it's a pretty easy mod if you are mechanically inclined. There are writeups on legacygt.com.

Thanks for the info. I will definitely get one. I'll have someone install it.

I just had a KarBoy short throw shifter installed with the bushings. Amazing difference!! The only problrm I had was with the C-clip at the bottom of the connection. I would recommend doing it with someone that has an idea/expereience with C-clips. It was a pain in the ass for me!

Well worth it though. Fairly cheap, and makes a huge difference!

^I just installed mine a couple months ago, and if you get the snap ring remover tool it'll be ok. Best tip: Pull UP on the shifter while you're squeezing the snap ring so it forces it out of the groove. The first time I did it (I had to install mine twice, they sent me a WRX shifter so it was too small for the cup  ) it took me a long time but the second time was much easier once I figured out to pull up.

I got the kartboy one as well and I love it :)
