No mods, I bought this car for the mountains because of the AWD! But I like to get there faster as well! I have 3 other cars but this is the only goatlike vehicle! The Magnum Hemi only spins wheels and My wife won't even let me try one of the Vettes (71 & 75)!

Welcome to teh .org! :D
Since you're used to powerful rear-drivers, you should be fine on the LGT, even with "all-season" tires.
But if you want to extend your safety margin, look in to a proper set of good winter tires. :) The difference is truly extraordinary, and worth every penny.
Given your location, and without an idea of your automotive background, it's hard to venture a guess as to your level of knowledge and know-how with regard to winter tires - if you're unfamiliar, don't be afraid to ask, as us Subaru nuts tend to also take our "winter tire needs" rather seriously, and you can get some very good information!
Again, welcome! :D

We moved here from Annapolis Md, so a good bit of snowmanship! Had a rear eng Porsche there for most of the time and a Cad Eldo for a while. I pretty much do it all with cars. Rebuild, Restore, Race, and have owned over 40 cars! Hate FWD! Lean towards RWD but AWD is winning me over! We are looking into moving to South Central NC and go between the new place and the mountains so winter Tires may be in my future! I just replaced the tires on the LGT with Nexen 5000! So far no problems and seem to be quite with good traction! Got caught in a 3 day snow in the mountains this winter and enjoyed the performance! The LGT was the only vehicle out of 14 to get up our mountain the first day! Wouldn't take the Vettes out in the rain, much less snow! The Magnum is a power machine and does a lot of spinning!

Maybe the '75, the '71 will get away from you with a LGT foot! Its a rag top that has been totally restored and it runs VERY nice, FAST!

^ I think you'll be fine, then, with all-seasons, as long as you've got enough tread and with a good eye towards inflation.
I spent quite a bit of time in Baltimore and DC, and a summer in Annapolis. Baltimore was actually where we first "landed," as immigrants. The winter of '84 was a great one for a kid who, up until that time, had never even seen snow. The winter of '85 followed with a few really cold days, and one of my fondest childhood memories was of my father boiling a big pot of water to pour on the windshield of our old Buick to try to rid it of the ice - yea, bad idea! but what're you going to do, when you're from a near-tropical climate (Taiwan), and didn't know about snow/ice scrapers? - luckily, the windshield didn't crack. Instead it just froze right back over.
I can still hear my father, cursing, in Chinese, in my head.
I later returned to Baltimore for my undergrad studies - I can't remember if it was the winter of '95 or '96... N.Charles St. was *deserted* and the city ground to a halt. My roommate and I threw our football around a bit, in the middle of one of the busiest streets/intersections in downtown Baltimore. Not a car to be seen that wasn't parked and buried.

I know what you mean about the streets! I lost a Porsche in a snow storm in Arlington Va for 3 days Couldn' see the car and hardly a bump in the road! Had to be winched out for almost a block as the wrecker could not get close to the car! They don't know how to handle heavy snow in that area!:type:
