Is there anyway to disable the factory door/key/seat belt chime on an '08 Outback? I have a friend who says it's constantly driving her nuts. I was able to get a wiring diagram from Mitchell On Demand for the whole Chime Circuit, but it doesn't show a buzzer or speaker anywhere. My best guess is that it would be part of a control module under the dash. At first I was just thinking I could cut the keysense wire at the ignition switch, but I'm afraid that it might affect other features like the factory immobilizer or the airbag system. I've heard that on some vehicles the chime can be turned off as an option by a dealer? Has anyone done something like this before? Don't tell me this annoying feature doesn't bother anyone else...

I can tell u on mine to disable the chime I disconnected a white harness under the drivers' seat, but mine's an '05.

I don't know if the '08s are the same. Check out legacygt.com.

Just an update in case anyone is interested.

I found that the chime could be turned off by cycling the ignition and then plugging and unplugging the seat belt something like 20 times as fast as you can. This actually worked, but if the battery gets disconnected or if the voltage drops too low like on a cold night, it reverts back to the factory settings and you have to go through the procedure again.

This was too much of a hassle so I disassembled the module under the dash to the right of the steering column and unsoldered the buzzer from the circuit board. I've also done this to an '05 5MT and it's worked wonderfully. If anyone is interested in the details PM me and I can send some pics.

The cycling isn't as fast as you can, it's just a cycle of 20 reps.

^^^ Yeah. I tried (more times than I care to say) going as fast as I could, but only when I took my time, and was deliberate with my clicks, did I get it.
