me and my friend billy decided to start sorting out my exhaust this past weekend....these are a few pics of our progress so far...it includes a cleaned out main cat, mated to a new 3" catback section going to 2 new mufflers....i went with a more domestic hotrod style muffler since i honestly hate chrome mufflers and have never thought they looked rite, especially on a lgt......to finish off the overhaul we will be cleaning out the cat in the downpipe, adding the stock exhaust tips to the new mufflers, and painting all the piping and mufflers black

The setup looks nice, however those cans don't. Looks like they were beat with the ugly stick.

+1:tdown: for the cans. The rest of the system looks ok.

I don't think they are that bad actually. I think with tips on them they will be pretty hard to see because of their placement.

I don't mind the mufflers at all.....but that "Y" section looks kinda, well....not smooth.....

I think the diameter makes up for the lack of mandrel bends.

The cans look similar to the muffler on the WRC STi. Custom work rox!

Good point.
:)
I don't think so. Welding a pipe into the side of another pipe is hardly = a y-pipe.

True - but I keep wondering how much flow is pumped out through the straighter of the two pipes, and whether or not if what seems will create excess backpressure (in the passenger's side pipe) will simply send most down the driver's side.
I'd imagine that more than likely, even at "Stage II" output levels, this setup would fare at the very least just as well as our stockers (given the stock piping diameter, "Y," and mufflers)....
Definitely not "optimal" - and had I been the one who wanted the work done, I'd have insisted on a proper "Y" - but with the 3" piping and modest HP goals, I don't think that this is, per se, that much of a problem.
It's just that for a "custom" setup, I was rather disappointed to see this....

I've always thought a 3" single would be more efficient, and routing a smaller pipe to that pipe would be an interesting idea, hence performance on a single 3" with the looks of a dual, asymmetrical style! Of course, I have teh stromung now so...

yea i agree the mufflers looked like **** in these pics, ill get new ones up sooner than later of the finished product...the spray paint or whatever it was the mufflers came with flaked off when the back section was being clamped onto with the welder while the ypipe was made, it was repainted with some hitemp flat black paint....and it is a actual y-pipe to some degree...theres a splitter piece of pipe the guy welded in that follows the bent side there to direct flow partially to the non strait piece/muffler, its not measure perfection...but if you stand behind, you get an even sound and whoosh of air coming out of both mufflers
