Wrecked my car this morning on the way to work. http://legacygt.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif Fortunately I didn't get hurt at all. I had just gotten off one hwy & onto another. Far left lane was blocked off with traffic cones. A highway dept truck pulled into the blocked lane & then back out in front of me as I was accelerating. Needless to say I accelerated right into the back of a DOT pickup truck going about 45-50mph. No brakes. Airbags didnt go off. No glass broke. My bumper got caught on the trailer hitch of the truck & I got pulled for a bit till it ripped the bumper off. Of course, since I rear ended a town truck I'm gonna be at fault. The cop was treating me like a 19 year old punk kid (I'm 29) & I was probably older than he was. Telling me I was speeding. I told him, "how fast could I be going in the 20 feet since I got on the hwy? Not fast enough to deploy the airbags or break any glass right? So it couldn't have been too fast." He was making like he was cutting me a break by not giving me a ticket. F-ing jackass. Thankfully nobody got hurt & hopefully the car can be fixed relatively easily.

yikes... sorry to see that... glad you are ok!

Thanks. It was basically the same as speeding up & driving into a brick wall. Fortunately I had just gotten on the highway so I wasn't going too fast.

Thanks dude. I'm greatful I didn't get hurt but I'm furious that this happened. Especially since rear-ending someone = your fault no matter what.

Go see a doctor...just in case.

Definatly see a lawyer if they are trying to blame you for the accident, that is total bull****. Truck pulled in front of you which means he didnt look.

coxx
04-13-2006, 11:45 AM
^^I hear what you guys are saying but I can't sue them. I'll never win. It was a woman driving a county vehicle (the hwy dept truck). I'll never win that one in local court. I love how the cop said to me "this is a work zone, you're lucky I don't give you like 3 tickets." I told him to go ahead & give me the tickets & I'll go to court. I would like to know what he could've given me a ticket for. Driving straight & getting cut off? Driving 50 in a 55?

Some cops are real **********s. Others aren't.

coxx

agreed Jedi. I've met plenty of great cops. This one just happened to be a rookie looking to prove something.

04-13-2006, 01:38 PM
That sux man, I know it is technicaly your fault but I would go talk to a lawyer anyway to see what you can do about it.glad you are ok and you have insurance for a reason so hopefully it will get fixed and be like it never happened or you get a new one.

Also glad to hear you are OK and I would still see a doctor just in case.

coxx
04-13-2006, 01:55 PM
^^^Thanks dude. I'm gonna go see the doc tomorrow just in case. I doubt it's totalled. The damage isn't even as far back as the wheels. Then again, it won't start so maybe it is. I won't know till next week. I'll keep yous all posted.

Precisely the reason why I want to mount a camera in my car.

I ahd a similar accident in another car where the ***** cut me off and since I rear ended her it was my fault. And the nerve of that ***** to sue me for soft tissue damage...

They don't need to clock you to give you a speeding ticket. I had this happen to me once. They give you a ticket for "driving at an unreasonable speed"....which basically means they don't have a friggin clue as to how fast you were actually going, but they think you looked like you might have been speeding...it's total B.S.

I got a ticket coming home late last night..... about three blocks from my house.... go figure...

coxx
04-15-2006, 07:03 AM
^^I know they don't need to clock you but I wasn't even close to speeding. I had just gotten on the parkway. The on ramp was close to the accident scene. I know they don't need proof but I mean come on. My airbags didn't even go off. No glass broke. That adds up to not going very fast IMO.

I just posted in it  I really think that cop could be or at least knows the cop at the accident.

coxx
04-15-2006, 09:11 AM
^^I saw that, thanks for the support. That's part of the reason I responded to him. I don't understand why he cares so much. I tried to PM him to ask him to stop but he wouldn't. I thanked him for kicking a man while he's down. He's the perfect example of the tough guy cop with a chip on his shoulder. Thanks again for saying something over there. I can't keep fueling the fire by responding to him. Even though I did think it was pretty funny when he called me "civillian"

ih8vtec13
04-15-2006, 09:46 AM
Yeah That civillian comment was lame, I keep hearing a robocop type voice when reading his posts

jedimaster
04-15-2006, 11:05 AM
Yeah, when a cop refers to people as civilian, they've automatically looked down from their lofty perch on the poor stupid peasants.

coxx
04-15-2006, 01:54 PM
^^Exactly Jedi. Like we said before, not all cops are bad. My brother & uncle are both retired from the force. I've got plenty of respect for the job they do. Sometimes the tough guy routine gets ridiculous though.

coxx
04-15-2006, 04:31 PM
I saw that, thanks Jedi. That guy really was being a dic.k. I don't understand what his problem is but fuk him anyways. He's acting just like the cop at the scene. Automatically assuming it was my fault.

heightsgtltd
04-16-2006, 04:26 AM
Yeah thats why i was in there for a while too, but after reading his responses I figured he wasnt worth the key strokes.

I have to say, for whatever reason, the guys who have identified themselves as cops on LGT.com have for the most part come off as ****s.

coxx
04-16-2006, 04:49 AM
Thanks for what you did say over there. This guy has got a real chip on his shoulder for some reason. I PMd him to ask him to stop kicking a guy when he's down (me) but he just got into a rant about how he doesn't "buy my story". He really got me fired up with all that. He's worse than the cop at the scene. He's asking where the corner damage is. If you look at my car, the bumper is dented in on one side & the drivers side headlight is the only one that's broken. I dunno what his problem is but he's stopped for now.

coxx
04-16-2006, 08:53 AM
Oh man, you guys gotta see this one. Now he's calling Jedi an "internet tough guy". This guy seems like a real prick. That comment is a perfect example of the pot calling the kettle black.

ih8vtec13
04-16-2006, 09:04 AM
dude that part about your car getting put to be made me manna ***** slap him so bad

coxx
04-16-2006, 09:10 AM
Yeah, me too. That was really outta line on his part. Just shows you the lack of respect some cops have for the public they're supposed to serve. I'm not saying cops are our slaves but they do provide a public service & therefore should treat the public with respect. I said I wouldn't directly respond to him anymore so I've gotta stick to that but this guy is really ridiculous. I also don't wanna get to into it with a cop either. I don't know what kind of trouble he can make for me, ya know? Probably nothing but I don't wanna chance it. I totally appreciate you guys backing me up on this. This cop & trying to argue that cops are not ****s by being a **** himself. It just makes no sense to me. I've said over & over in that thread that I like cops too. My brother & uncle are retired cops. This guy's got some chip on his shoulder. He's prob a miserable bastard. One of those tough guy asshole cops.

ih8vtec13
04-16-2006, 10:00 AM
YeahI total understand that, I have run in to cops a few times and most have been cool only one or 2 asshats. I have also allways treated cops with respect too and have usualy been let off with a warning or a no point ticket like a seatbelt or something. The last cop that pulled me over was cool as hell, when he came to the car I just said before you say anything I have to sheak your hand on having the best hiding spot ever.

He gave me a speeding ticket still but told tthe judge to give me a reduction to a fine only ticket and that was after we (usualy me) missed a total of 5 court dates. Also on the last cour date when we where barganing down the ticket we had a few laughs talking so there are deffinatly some cool cops out there. Well anyway just don't let this guy get you down.

coxx
04-16-2006, 10:21 AM

now is there any word on the damage?

coxx
04-17-2006, 07:55 AM
Not yet, just called the insurance company. They should be sending someone out today to look at it. Friday was good friday so it kinda backed things up for another day. I really gotta get some better pics for you guys too. It looks a whole lot worse in that pic I posted than it is (or at least I think it does). I'm 99% positive it's not gonna be anywhere close to totalled. I guess I have to play the waiting game with it for now. On a better note, I wasn't the least bit hurt at all. I was waiting for the whiplash pains in the back & neck but I never got any.

If they did follow you over what they were doing over there would not be tolerated and it would not get close to as bad.It sucks that you may not be able post another thread there cause it may happen again, there are way more people there that might be able to help. Have you posted this in nasioc
yet, you may get some good advice there too.

coxx
04-17-2006, 08:42 AM
Nah, no nasioc for me. I lurk on nasioc but they're pretty brutal sometimes over there. I'll be able to post another thread over there in a week or so. I was told that I could. I'll start a new one with updated pics of the damage & more details of how it's all getting handled. Any A$$holes like that guy will be shut down quickly if it turns into a circus again.

I just didn't want to get into it with them all about religion. I do things my way, but the indignant ones aren't gonna be convinced. I'm up for talking to mister tough guy cop at the next meet- bet he's nice in person. Lots of the worst a-holes you'll run into on the web are nice in person. I might be one of them

  You mean HE's the internet tough guy?? Maybe you both are. That guy didn't help the popular opinion of cops at all. I'll bet he won't even show at a meet. As for the religion thing. There's people can say "I believe in one thing & you believe in another but it's all good" & then there's the one's that think they're the only people who are right. I try not to argue with those types. There are other people in the world & they're not going anywhere so you might as well try to get along.

I once hit a cop car. I was driving a VW Microbus (factory camper conversion no less!) (why, yes, I *did* have long hair, why do you ask?) and was stopped at a red light with my right turn signal on. Cop drove up the shoulder, which was painted with great big white diagonal lines and the words "NO TURN". I never saw him, pulled right and grazed his fender with my bumper. The guy fessed up immediately, all good, just a little paint swapped from his fender to my bumper.

About a month later I get a bill from the township for dent repair and paint on the cop's cruiser. Called them up and said, "how about this: I send you no money, you stop sending me bills for your boy's mistake, and my lawyer won't contact you. Deal?" Never heard from them again. Maroons.

Sometimes things can be taken completely wrong cause you can read text and interprate it your own way and you can be wrong easily. ^^Eh, whatever. F that guy. He's also younger than me which is why he got so offended. He's telling me it's ok to call me "kid" but I betcha if I called the officer "junior" he wouldn't like it very much. That's all done with. Waiting to hear from insurance today. Hopefully I can get the ball rolling soon so I can get my car back for the summer. Nice days over this past weekend & I really missed it.

Yeah, that happens to me too but in general it's great to look young. I've been in bars when the cops come to check IDs & they always go right for me. I get IDd for cigarettes all the time. I even got IDd for an R rated movie once  . Sometimes you need to be taken seriously as an adult though. I do most of my business for work over the phone. I brought my nephew & like 6 of his friends to see Jackass the movie. They were all like 15 & 16 & I was 26 or 27 at the time. The movie theater people thought we were all the same age. Then they told me I had to be 21 to take them. I showed ID to buy the tickets & to walk in to the theater. Then some of the kids went to get popcorn after we got seats & the manager followed them back in to the theater & IDd me again. It was pretty funny but it was annoying at the time. Some pimply faced 17 year old movie theater manager giving me **** about being over 21  . I didn't get too pissed though b/c technically he was just doing his job.

Thats good, once when a cop asked if i had any contraban when i got pulled over i said just a couple of pipe bombs and something else i think it was a couple of kilos and lauged. He got a laugh and told me it was not a good idea to joke like that. He did not search my car BTW.

Yo I also got asked my age when signing for my snowboard to get a tune-up because you need to be 18 to sign, this was in Feb. before i went to go ride the Alps in Austria.

GMAC but they farm it out somehow. So it's like GMAC/Joe Schmoe insurance co. I got it thru a local insurance agent. They search around for the cheapest every time it's almost up. I had something happen a few years ago that made my insurance go up tremendously. Now it's back into the normal range again.

Damn man- it's not a total, right? I think you said 5K+ damage.

coxx
04-22-2006, 09:59 AM
^^Yup, almost $6k. Not even close to a total. I tried to take that side shot to show that it's not even up to the wheel wells. It's gonna be headlights, bumper, bumper beam, radiator, grill, & some other misc stuff I think. I'm gonna get a full list of what needs fixin next week, as well as a time frame for when it'll all be done. I like how the emblem is still intact on the grill. If it hadn't been for that damn trailer hitch on the hwy truck I would probably not be as bad. That thing tore my bumper right off & speared right into my radiator. Where's Mr tough guy when you need him. I'd like him to tell me again how that damage is all dead center.

ih8vtec13
04-22-2006, 10:56 AM
It looks like it worse on the side and I think the bend in the beam is possably where the bumper of the truck ended. sorry to see that man but at least she wil be out and good as new soon.

You should see what the cost of getting a RBS grille vs. a stocker would be. That way, you wouldn't have to mess with the sanding and bondo crap again- I know I hated doing it.

coxx
04-22-2006, 12:19 PM
Already ordered the RBS grille. Gonna put thru insurance in lieu of the stocker. Also ordered the lip spoiler. I'm gonna have them paint it to match & put it on for me. I'm grabbing the headlights before they go on too. I got my halos sittin here at home & I'm gonna paint the housings black. It should all look pretty slick when it's done. I didn't do the halos before b/c I didn't wanna re-open the headlights again. Since I'm gonna open them this time to clear them anyways I figured why not do everything all in one shot. Like Scans said, now is the time to do all these things.

^^No such luck my friend. Back at the dealer right now so they can try to un-F what they F-ed up. If I had known the body shop was gonna send it to the dealer for engine repairs I'd have made them take it somewhere else. The insurance adjustor has to come out & look at it tomorrow to see what the "new" damages are & how much more it'll cost to fix. If it's not gonna get fixed right I'm gonna ditch it & get a new one. Trade-in value is about what I owe on it still so it would be a wash & start all over again. We'll see what happens.

^^Dude, I don't even know what they did. I haven't gotten a straight answer nor do I care. Either it gets fixed back to 100% or they can keep the car & shove it up their asses. When people F with me with stuff like this I've got a habit of making their lives totally f-ing miserable so I'm not worried too much about it. One way or the other it'll be taken care of. Either they'll fix it right or they'll pay me.

So, it's been about 6 weeks since my accident & I still don't have my car back.
The original estimate on the damages was for about $5-6k. I figured no biggie. Some body work, new radiator, good as new. WRONG. Unfortunately, the body shop, not knowing any better (not their fault at all) sent the car to the dealership for the mechanical repairs. That alone upped the damages to almost $10k. So, I get the car back & it's ticking like crazy. Not the usual faint boxer tick. Loud ticking like when you stick a baseball card in the spokes on your bicycle. I take it back to the dealer, they tell me no problem (of course), bring it in tomorrow & we'll fix it up for you. Now, at this point I know this dealer is a joke but since they're the shop on the insurance I have to let them do it. Well, that was 2 weeks ago that I brought it in. It was an additional $5,400 worth of repairs bringing the total cost of damages up to almost $16,000!!!!!!!! I'm so pissed, the car should've probably been totalled but since it was like $5k, $5k, $5k in 3 separate shots there's no way it's gonna be totalled now. The dealer also tells me "the way this works is you pay us & get reimbursed from insurance.". I told them no way in hell am I handing you $5,400 out of my pocket. They then informed me they cannot release the car to me without payment so I told them keep it there, I'm not paying you. I called my insurance company about this & they said DO NOT PAY OUT OF YOUR POCKET. What a scam. I'm bettin on the fact that the dealer knew full well the extent of the damages but figured if insurance totals the car they don't get paid so they downplayed it to make some money. That's my paranoia talking but still, I wouldn't be surprised. End all of it is I should get it back this week. Once my car is back in my posession I'm calling a lawyer to tell him my suspicions see if I have any legal recourse. I'm also going to go to some other dealerships & see about trading it in. Trade-in value is roughly what I owe on the loan. I'd feel like a scumbag selling it privately after all this. I've seen some leftover 2005's & 06's for a few grand off so I'll just start all over again, probably with a lower payment. I'll have to strip off all my aftermarket stuff but oh well, I'm not giving that stuff away to the dealer. It sucks that I'll have to go thru all that but I think that's the best bet. I really don't want a car back that should've been totalled most likely. Anyways, enough of my rant. I got a few inquiries from people about what happened to my car so I figured I'd fill you guys in.

The dealer your car is at has done me well, but since this fiasco I doubt my car will ever see it again. Sorry to hear about it and hope all works out well for you.
