Quick question on cigarette lighter problem

So today I installed my electric cutout and put the switch in the ashtray. I had the lighter disconnected and when I put it back together it keeps popping fuses. I'm not sure exactly what went wrong but I did notice one thing: There's a power and a ground that screw onto the lighter itself. The power has a piece of plastic insulating it from the ground it looks like. I used some electrical tape to try and insulate it but it keeps popping fuses.

Does anyone know if there's a simple workaround for this? I know the power and ground shouldn't touch. Can I rewire it somehow to avoid going and buying a new connector from Subaru?

Any help is appreciated. I wouldn't care if it worked except my digital boost gauge is tapped in there.

I know it's obvious, but you've double checked all of the new wiring?

Recently I had the same problem of blowing fuses, and couldn't figured why everytime I pluged in my phone it would pop. Then I tried using the one in the arm rest, and low and behold I found the problem. A metal clip from a pen had broken off and ended up in the socket, causing it to short out. Luckly it was an easy fixed.

The positive is the inside center of the cylinder and the entire rest of it is the ground...I'd make sure the center (and wire connected to it) are in no possible way touching nething else. Also make sure you didn't somehow put the plug on in a way the +/- could b reversed.

Has anyone else having issues with their ciqarette lighter?

The light inside my cigarette area is always on, so I can see the little sliver of light at night when I'm driving around. It annoys me.

They do make LED bulbs that look sick. I bought some for my head lights, there chrome and blink amber. I'll post the link when I find the site again.
