View Full Version : Wood interior trim

I saw a nice wood trim on an LGT with tan interior. I asked the dealer for it for my black interior, and they told me no because they only supply on the Taupe or tan or whatever they call it. Any one know where I can get the factory trim, or if it is even possible?

You'll need to locate the parts-numbers for the factory trim, and then order through either a secondary source or a dealership parts department.

Member "Opie" on "The Other Forum" has always been extremely helpful and knowledgeable in this respect, and I would encourage you to follow-up with him.

Note, however, that the LGT trim is faux wood, made of plastic. You can pursue aftermarket overlays that are either real or faux wood, potentially at the same cost outlay as the factory faux-wood trim.

I like the look of the factory fake wood, but I'm sure the other aftermarket sets would work. I just don't want to put too much on and cheese it up.

:) NP - and bro, I know exactly what you mean.

Although I would prefer real wood - even a thin-overlay - the "problem" I perceive with many of the good aftermarket overlays is that they only offer a "glossy" finish.

I love the "matte" look of my standard trim, and the fact that it is plastic only upsets me just a little. ;)

In my view, there's good fake wood, and there's bad - and for what my personal tastes are, I like the way ours look.

^ That's my MOMO-pimp'ed interior. "Wood" F16 Evo knob, matched with "Wood" PitStop e-brake handle and custom boots by RedLineGoods. :)

My previous vehicles were all dressed in CF/aluminum fashion, and one of the reasons I specifically wanted the taupe interior on my LGT was because I thought of it as a "luxurious" departure from my past MO. ;)

TSi+wrx - I love the shift know & ebrake handle!

Thanks for your compliments, everyone - I know it's not to everyone's taste, but it is something that strikes my personal fancy.

To-note, though, that installation of the PitStop e-brake handle is a pain in the ass...if you really want to tackle this, I can guide you through it, but it's truly not for the faint-of-heart, as it will require "stripping" off of the leather on the e-brake handle, as it's bonded to the metal underneath.

So this is not an swap it back on or get a used one cheep off the forms mod :(

^ No, unfortunately, this ain't easy - nor again for the faint-of-heart.

It'll require true removal of the leather off of the metal "frame/skeleton" of our e-brake assembly, and this needs to be accomplished either with a very sharp knife (and quite some skill, to avoid puncturing oneself) or, as I chose to do it, by using a Dremel tool to literally "grind off" the leather (which is quite messy).

The problem is that the PitStop handle's interior is way, way too tight for our e-brake handle, and it's very hard to modify the PitStop handle's interior/frame as that itself is also hard metal - making grinding (think of it as "porting") its interior a rather gruesome task in and of itself.

:( Sorry, bro, ain't a easy one....

I love the fake wood in my interior. It took awhile for it to grow on me, as did the momo shift knob and sti pedals.

Can't help it. :)

I judged it before knowing that it was fake. Remember, bro, I looked at the LGTs totally on a whim - I didn't know the next thing about them :Dunno: when I took Winky out for my initial test-drive.

So I figured, heck, if I liked it without knowing, what's wrong with liking it outright? :o

That's actually my approach to food, too. I'll give anything a try - just don't tell me what it turns out to be, if I like it!

Me too!

I want to see how it looks in a black interior before I order.

Yhe JDM have a Black Burlwood or whatever you call it, it's almost black wood, and it looks badass but only comes for the RHD car.

Someone still needs to post pics of this fake wood crap in this thread.

Effin Ponderous

I agree with Andy...need to see some aftermarket. I've been looking around and have yet to find any pics. I had an all black interior on my G35 with factory (real) birdseye maple. It really dressed it up. I see a few A/M vendors offering kits but no pics at all.

One of the LGT.com brothers has some pix of his aftermarket kit, installed.

I'll try to cross-post (only the pix) if (1) I can find him and (2) can obtain his permission to do so. :)

You know, there's always one or two guys on a site who take this stuff seriously and do a good job...thanks.

:) No problem - glad to help.

I've already contacted the brother over at .com - hopefully, he'll reply soon. I haven't seen him posting in a while, so he may be on vacation.

I'll cross-post his pic as soon as I receive permission.

^ Agreed, I don't like it that it's fake, either. :(

But that's something I didn't find out until after I'd taken my first test-drive in Winky and fell in-love with her more "adult" interior dress. My previous rides were all carbon-fiber, brushed aluminum or turned metal, and painted plastics. I was certainly somewhat disappointed, but not badly enough put-off by it that I wanted to go the metallic-trim route with another interior color package.

For me, "not knowing" was bliss.

Here's the promised picture, released courtesy of good DSM and LGT brother John M :

He did make me promise, though, that I would remind those who might want to consider this trim kit that the ashtray as well as the center console storage area also come with their own respective overlays with this kit.

He chose not to install those products as he has projects planned for those areas (i.e. gauges and carputer).

Thanks again to brother John M for his generosity in allowing the picture hijack from his personal website.

Wow, That really dresses it up with out going too far. I am impressed and I want it too. The only difference is I have the black interior and would prefer to look at a birdseye maple if they have it. If not, I'll go with what he showed there.

Who, what, where, when and how much?

Update:

Brother John M got it from: http://exoticwooddash.com/

I believe that the price, at the time, was around $200 - not sure if this has either gone up or dropped down. I did not bother him for this extra info., it was simply from his past posts on LGT.com. :)

His kit is the Rosewood kit. It's real wood, in laminate format.
