payments/ins should be cheaper on the rex than a new specb so...

i think ill wait a couple years, beat on the rex and then buy the specb

was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the matter, i want the specb, but where i am at right now (finances) i dont see my next car being the specb

and i want to upgrade from a 94 acura

^ I know it's hard to resist when something looks good and is at a good price, but honestly, brother, I'd just wait 'till you're ready for the SpecB, at your planned "later date."

This will ease your financial burden (and although you may be able to easily afford the WRX, insurance and incidentals included, remember that you'll still have to support her in terms of typical maintenance costs - and it's also going to be hard to resist upgrading her a bit more, I'd bet), so that when you're finally ready to plunk down for the SpecB, you'll be in a great place, financially speaking. :)

Why "settle"?

I'd wait.

Kind brother, the way I see it, it's not exactly about "settling" or taking "second best" while waiting for his true goal.... ;)

Instead, it's about setting himself up to be financially more secure so that when the time comes for him to purchase a new car, he can do so without worrying about the other needs in his life. :)

The way I see it, getting this WRX now would definitely be a lot of fun for him - but it would also throw some un-necessary X-factors into his financial situation as he's saving-up for his "new-off-the-lot" ride.

I'm not sure if you've looked in to the finance thing yet, but the payments may not be much different between the two. If monthly cash flow is the issue, you'll probably pay 8 or 9% interest on the used, vs lower rates on the new. Actually, think about a three year lease on the SpecB vs a buy on the Rex. Your payments will probably be the same. After three years you can buy it outright. This route may cost you more overall, but allow you to get in to it immediately. I say may because you will loose equity in the Rex when you turn it over, whch may equate to the extra you spend leasing first on the SpecB

its nice as hell but i would go spec b, insurance payments wil be more on the WRX too so it will help offset the price differance.

^ Very good points. Something I'd not considered. Certainly a valid approach.
