Clutch: ACT
Type: RS, Drag ( they also make a track version)
Heavy duty Pressure plate, 4 puck disc, misc parts
http://www.advancedclutch.com/produc...99&aengine=All (http://www.advancedclutch.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=978&amake=Subaru&amodel=Impreza&ayear=1999&aengine=All)

I found ACT to be very expensive... almost $100 more for their PP than what I payed here http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/ACTSB011.htm (http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/ACTSB011.htm). It shows $308 now, but I paid $250 shipped.

As you can see from the ACT site that there are different clutches you can get. I don't really care about tracking my car, I'm a 0-60/1320 type of guy so i got the Street Drag clutch.

The Flywheel is not dual mass, and weighs 15lbs compared to the 30+ lbs stock flywheel.

At around 20k miles, StgII, I started to get some serious slippage with the stock clutch. After doing a bit of homework and searching... I found that that that the RS clutch from the 98-01 Imprezza will work in our car. As far as I Know I would be the first one to this switch. I think a former member named Clawnb(was banned) had this before me, but with a different components. I knew getting into this I was taking that path less traveled and risked blowing $1000 on a clutch that may or may not work.

I consulted a few board experts concerning my quams... the main person being TDC. Jon and I discussed in detail what I would need and how it would all work.
THANKS JON AND TDC!!!

anyway....

I don't have any experience with clutch work... I am strictly limited to CAI's, FMIC's and exhaust work. So in turn I had TDC do the install.

Jon was very adamant about me conducting a break in period, which I did, all 1000 miles of it with a stock maphttp://legacygt.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif . (he recommended 500-100)

When I arrived at TDC to pick my car up it was parked facing in towards the garage door. I put the car in reverse, gave it the normal amount of gas and... stalled it. I was in for a big change with my clutch skills.

Let me say first off that this clutch has a well defined sweet spothttp://legacygt.com/forums/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif . you let out the clutch, give it a little gas, and BAM! it catches and your off. This clutch is def not for the faint of heart....http://legacygt.com/forums/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif If you drive a lot in stop and go traffic, don't bother with this clutch because it will make your left leg huge!! it feels about 10 lbs heavier than stock. (using my best estimate)

During the break in I was brought back to September of 05 when I purchased my car and had to deal with the stench of the new clutch....
This smell was different though.... smelled more like burning fluid then actual clutch. Which I found to be a small amount of fluid spill on the actual transmission.
once that burned off I could start to smell the clutch. After about 800 miles the stench all but disappeared.

During the first 800 or so miles there was alot of clutch chatter in 2nd and 3rd gear. It has all but gone away now. I also noticed that this clutch lets you know when your not in the right gear. you have to to really pay attention to your RPMs to gear ratio or your in for a shaky ride.

Once I reached 1000 miles I decided to try out a few launches on a private road close to my house. I started off with some low RPM launches and gradually built up to a max of 3500 RPM launch. The low RPM launches were shaky and slow, but the 3500RPM launch was neck breaking. Once again the sweet spot caught and I was very impressed. ABSOLUTELY NO SLIPPAGE!! Its almost impossible to slip this clutch....

Pro's:
1. the sweet spot
2. The strength
3. THE PRICE!!

Con's:
1. the chatter
2. the smell (goes away quickly but is intense)
3. hard for city driving

Questions? PM me or post them here. PM TDC for install quotes and part prices.
