My leather on the hand brake is falling off? Anybody else have this issue? I guess I need to make the dealer fix it under warranty. Just wondering if anybody else had to do the same thing.

6 month 10,000 miles
its not the boot, its the leather on the bottom of the handle itself

If you notice once again the title said Hand/Parking Brake, because different people reffer to it differently. I was covering all bases. think damnit, think!!! ;) I figured since this is a car forum, more people reffer to it as a hand brake because of power sliding around corners, stuff like that, ect...

Well, since this thread got revived....... :)
So, for you guys and gals who are having problems with excessive wear of the factory handle's leather covering - since your leather is already getting messed-up, you don't have much to lose by doing this.....
http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16438&highlight=pitstop
Read my replies to the OP of that thread carefully - keefe is wrong, there's no need to "hack off" the entire assembly, only a "de-skinning," as I've described in-detail, from actually doing this modification first-hand, is necessary.
Yes, it's messy, but it's nowhere near as messy as having to bring out the Sawzall or grinding wheel to actually "hack away" the underlying handle skeleton, which is totally un-necessary.
Note that since my replies in that thread, I've made that area more aesthetically coherent. I changed the handle to a "wood" model to better match both my LGT's interior trim as well as my MOMO F16 EVO "wood" shift knob. I've also changed the leather boot in this area to a customized (special order to my specifications) one from RedLineGoods, whom I highly recommend:
http://www.legacygt.org/forums/vbpicgallery.php?do=big&p=40
[ And in-turn, please note that since this picture was last taken, I've re-done my countermeasures setup - the remote SmartCord for my Escort x50 now no longer sits in the open. ]
The handle modification not a hard mod to do - just somewhat messy, and definitely time-consuming.

The matching pieces look really nice. Is there a step by step write up for this anywhere? I want to get rid of my crappy plastic ebrake handle and shift knob...

Hey bro,
Thanks for the compliment - I know it's not to everyone's taste, but one of my foremost "likes" for the LGT, during my purchase process, was that it was so far removed from my previous "alcantera, CF, and brushed aluminum" days as a DSMer. :) The "wood" appealed to me.
I don't think that there's a step-by-step write-up anywhere. I think, unfortunately, my posted information about "stripping" that handle leather is as close as you're currently going to get, I'm afraid. :o
I'd honestly say that using the Dremel wasn't a smart decision, as it just spewed leather/rubber dust everywhere... a SHARP knife, plus some steady hands, would be much better.
The "fit" of the PitStop handles over that of our stock leather covering is a trial-and-error process, as-is making one of those "button extenders."
Getting RedLineGoods to do another boot should be no problem for you, since they already have my previous measurements as a template.

^ I'm a knife collector - so you can imagine how disappointed I was that I didn't use one of my knives for this purpose.
