A friend, a senior in high School, asked if he could take my car Saturday night to Prom. Uh....... I'm torn. I remember how important it was for me to take a nice car to prom (my dad's '87 Porsche 944) so I am sympathetic to his plea, and I think I will let him, but I still havent decided. He is a really responsible kid, and he's fully insured, but I dont even let my wife drive the LGT without me. I have let him drive it once when I was with him, and he was fine, but alas, I am still undecided.

What would you do?

I dunno bout this one. My own dad doesn't get to drive MY car...(and he helped me out with the down payment:lol:)

But, on a serious note, if he is taking the car, parking it somewhere safe, and spending the night somewhere, I would be okay with it(you). If he plans on driving late at night, I would say no. Although we don't know what may or may not happen, there tends to be alcohol, stupid friends, and just plain stupidity on prom night. (I know there was at my prom night, many, many 4 years ago:p)

Don't forget about doing the nasty in the back seat. You might find some unwanted stains. Just pretend your car is your is your little girl and tell him to have her home by midnight.

If you can trust your buddy, I say do eet.

Yeah, I gave him the go ahead. He'll have it back to me Saturday night, so I know he wont pull up intoxicated. I can assure you this kid won't be doing the deed in the back seat of my car, thats one thing I can say for sure. Here goes nothing! He'd better take care of her!

Thats cool man, it's weird how being around kids makes us rember what its was like back then and makes us more sympathetic. That being said I would not lend my car to a HS kid on prom night, you know what happens on prom night, drugs, booze, and sex.

Gotta get the NAV going. The nice thing about being older is that I know my and his insurance will cover any accidents, and he respects me too much to screw around with my baby!

He took the car, and I got it back in one piece without issue. I also found a corsage, sweatshirt and a pair of sunglasses in it too

Excellent. At least he left you flowers, something warm, and a pair of shades to look cool in. Good thing he didn't leave his Jockeys in the backseat.

Now there's a thought! I need to do that for myself! Damn, an 8 mile commute and I am getting 16mpg on average 'cause it's all stop and go. And when I go, I go! Gas prices suck, especially premium!
