"Real Genius" had to be my favorite movie of Val Kilmer, then a close 2nd in "Top Secret", and 3rd "The Doors"

He's alright. But what I don't like about the new guy, Christian Bale, is how he makes his voice 10 octaves deeper when he talks as Batman compared 2 when he's Bruce Wayne.

Yeah, I seem to get these occasional emails from here, so I thought I oughta post something.
I'm doing well. Don't know if I mentioned it on here (probably haven't posted since then), but I got remarried on Oct 22, '09, and had a baby boy on Sep 29, '10. I've been busy.
Oh, and I'm back to driving my Legacy again. My son was in the process of buying it off me (while I drove the Tribeca) but he decided he couldn't afford it, so he gave it back. My new wife was driving an Accord, so we all swapped - wife has the Tribeca, son has the Accord, and I have the Legacy again,... and everyone's happy.

Whoops, just realized I hadn't responded to you Dookie...
Thanks for the congrats! Things are mostly getting back to normal, except for waking up a time or two each night. But that's better than the 4-5 times a nght when Nate was a newborn..
Yes, it was nice getting back into the LGT. I missed it.
I also got the benefit of my son installing an Agency Power cat-back, though it's just a tad loud for my taste. I might have to change that out someday. Anybody want a lightly used Agency Power cat-back exhaust? I think it was around $850 new.
I'm thinking of going with a Megan Racing cat-back with the quad tips.
Dookie

I don't miss those times of waking up through out the night feeding and changing diapers. Thank god I'm fix now, I don't have to go through that again.:)
Is the Agency Power CBE pretty loud at idle too? What about the "drone" sound while cruzing around town?
SubieDriver
03-14-2011, 08:38 AM
At idle and around town it sounds fine (not too loud), it's just at highway speeds it drones a bit loud. I've noticed that it mellows right out above 80, but the cops around here seem to have a problem with me doing that. :D
The exhaust came with baffles that quiet things down a bit, but I still get the drone between 60-75mph. My commute has about 30 miles of highway, so I deal with it every day. Aside from the drone, the sound level is not bad at all, and it sounds good and rumbly, and the throttle feels more responsive than with the stock exhaust.
Dookie
03-14-2011, 03:59 PM
That's why I'm still running the Hoghast system, because of the low drone sound.:o  Do you plan on switching to another CBE system?
SubieDriver
03-15-2011, 08:37 AM
I'm considering the Megan Racing cat-back, but haven't decided if/when I want to do that. Other things are taking my monetary resources at the moment, so it's not in the budget (yet).
The previous owner of my LGT installed Tein S-Tech springs on it (1.5" drop), and they make for a firm ride with not quite enough suspension travel, so I want to switch out to something not quite so low (like maybe Tein H-Tech).
I had bent the rims while I was driving it. My son then got his own set of wheels while he was driving it, which he proceeded to bend due to potholes and bumps, so going with slightly higher spring will reduce the expense of replacing rims.
The S-Techs give a 1.5" drop. The H-Techs are a 1" drop, so that might be enough additional suspension travel to stop bending wheels.
So, springs are proabably a higher priority than exhaust at this moment. Wanna buy a set of Tein S-Tech springs? ... and an Agency Power cat-back?
Dookie
03-15-2011, 10:35 AM
Already riding on H-Tech springs, and loving it. Don't want to go any lower, the H-Techs are a perfect blend for my DD.
Would like to have a nice CBE, but I'm in the same boat as you with funds. Tax season is here and I know I have to pay.
SubieDriver
03-16-2011, 07:09 AM
Okay Dookie, you've helped settle it. I'm going with H-Techs.
Hey, didn't SubieChik say that she has S-Techs on her Spec.B? Or that she was thinking of putting them on? I seem to remember something about S-Techs not giving as much as a drop on the Spec.B due to different suspension geometry or something, so the S-Techs on Spec.B give about the same drop as H-Techs on the GT.
Maybe I'll just have to switch to H-Techs for my GT, and save my S-Techs for when (if) I get a Spec.B... :p
brilliant sleeper
03-16-2011, 07:24 AM
I can also vouch for the H-techs. Though I wish the front was a little lower. There were two reason's that I did not get the S-techs. First, because I couldn't afford shocks AND springs. Secondly because of the clearance over the amount of snow we get in NH. My next suspension purchase will be a good DD coilover set-up so I can make her low in the summer and nearly stock height in the winter to beast out the snow with the winter tires.
Dookie
03-16-2011, 07:57 AM
^^ That would be a good idea to easily adjust to your surroundings.
SubieDriver - I don't remember what SC is using for her suspension, and from what I remember about the Spec-B's drop, I do believe you're correct. With your DD commute, you're going to like the H-Techs a lot better.
SubieDriver

Not too much. How's things with you?
I ended up not buying the Tein H-Techs - had a budget crunch, but needed to replace my seized-up strut, so I just put the stock springs back on while replacing the front struts.
It was an adventure - had only one seized bolt, but it came loose with a breaker bar w/ pipe extension.
Next project: replacing rear wheel bearings which are getting quite noisy.
Dookie
09-20-2011, 02:02 PM
About the same as you, budget crunch. Damn recession is killing everyone.
A seized shock must suck, and I'm feeling my fronts are slowly going out too. Starting to have a little more spring in them when I go over bumps.
Good luck with the wheel bearing, to bad it's not as easy as just replacing the bearing. You'll have to replace the whole spindle.:(
SubieDriver
09-21-2011, 06:42 AM
Yeah, that's what I've been told, that the whole spindle needs to be changed out. Tires Plus offered to do the two rears for $650. $120 each for the spindles, the rest for labor - apparently it's a rather labor-intensive task - not looking forward to doing it myself, so I'll save up to pay someone else to do it.
Dookie
09-21-2011, 08:39 AM
Meh......you can do eet!! It should take you about an hour to replace one side. Here's a link, if you haven't read it yet, to a front wheel bearing replacement. Some good tips for front and rear replacements.

09-21-2011, 09:55 AM
I'm checking into this - my car should qualify:
From http://www.cars101.com/recalls.html
5/2/2008
Legacy, Outback, certain 2005 and early 2006 models
Rear Wheel Bearings may, over time, develop a noise condition that causes the bearing to produce a whining sound
Subaru. has initiated an Extended Warranty Program for Rear Wheel Bearings on certain 2005 and early 2006 model year Legacy and Outback models. Coverage will be extended to 8 years or 100,000 miles.
During a quality review, Subaru discovered that there is a possibility that one or both of an affected vehicle's Rear Wheel Bearings may, over time, develop a noise condition that causes the bearing to produce a whining sound. This sound does not pose a safety issue and does not adversely affect the normal operation of the bearing. However, if the vehicle experiences this condition, it should be corrected by replacing the affected bearing, which will eliminate the sound. As a result of this finding and in the interest of customer satisfaction, SOA is extending the Rear Wheel Bearing warranty coverage period for the affected vehicles to 8 years (96 months) or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first.
Technical Service Bulletin number 03-58-08
SubieDriver
09-21-2011, 10:08 AM
My local dealer verified the service bulletin, and said my car qualifies, so I'll be bringing it in tomorrow. They just need to verify that it is indeed the wheel bearings causing the noise, and, if so, it sounds like it'll be covered! I'll update you tomorrow.

Update: I took my Legacy in today, and they determined that the left rear bearing is failing, so they're replacing that one, but not the other one. While they had it in, they "found" about $1000 worth of other stuff that "needed" to be done.
So, I got my left-side rear wheel bearing replaced free.
Dookie
09-22-2011, 03:39 PM
Of course they would find other things wrong, they need to make up the labor for doing free wheel bearings.

^^^ I think SOA pays the dealer for that. But yeah, they prolly wanna do more regardless.
SubieDriver
09-23-2011, 08:00 AM
Yep, SOA pays the dealer. The dealer told me that SOA won't pay unless the bearing is confirmed bad, which is why they only replaced one. I asked if they should replace the other one as a precaution, and they came back with, "if you're willing to pay for it." I wasn't.
kagenmateer
09-25-2011, 08:44 PM
How much was it?
SubieDriver
09-26-2011, 08:46 AM
I didn't even ask - I just didn't want to pay anything more, as I knew some of the other things they recommended being done really needed to be done, and the budget's a little tight, and the tally was already over $500, so the other bearing was not high on my list.

SubieDriver
11-15-2011, 12:25 PM
Heh, no, I wasn't doing anything to the tree.
I just meant there were a whole lotta details, so I just mentioned the highlights.
We were actually in Michigan when the tree fell. The neighbor heard it fall (thought it was in his own yard) at 4:15 in the morning. He called the fire dept when he saw the corner of our house gone and water spurting out the side from the remains of the toilet.
It demolished our deck and stairs on the back, punctured the roof in several spots, lowered our dining room ceiling by an inch, sliced off the ends of about a dozen rafters, and sheared off the corner of the master bath. We lost our toilet and sink along with the corner of the bathroom.
It was really odd walking into the bathroom and having no walls on that corner. It took off about six feet of wall on either side of the corner.
It was a large oak tree, about 3 feet in diameter at the base, and at least 80 feet tall. It fell across the back of our house, to ensure it damaged as much of our house as it could as it committed suicide.
Total damage estimate was $47,000.
So we now have a new deck, new roof, new carpet (due to water damage), new siding on half the house, and we got 70% of the house repainted.
We came out of it pretty well.

Sucks that you have to come home to a bashed house, and good thing you guys weren't asleep in the bedroom when it happen. I would have had a heart attack if I awoke to a tree bashing a quarter of my room/house in the middle of the night. Good to hear that everything was reconstructed back and no one was hurt.
Did they determine the cause of the tree?

The tree removal people said that the roots were starting to rot, so it was probably a gust of wind that proved too much for the weakened roots.
There were some dead branches on the tree, so we figured we would eventually have to remove it, or at least trim the dead parts, but there were enough live branches that the tree still looked healthy. The decay was happening in the root system, out of sight, so it didn't really appear sick.

I was hoping for a funny story, such as, Bubba might have something to do with it...... "Hey ya'll, watch what I could do with this big ole tree there...... *Snap*........ *crash*..... WOW!, did ya'll see that? That some-of-a-b!tch tree there just smashed right into that house. Hey Jed, grab the dog, lets go!!"

Broke my radiator drain plug the other day, so found a bolt that would closely fit the hole. Grabbed some JB Weld putty, and permanently sealed the bolt in the hole. No auto part stores in my area carried a new plug and I needed a quick fix.

I'd love to have one, being better in most ways than the previous gen, but it's not in the budget right now.

At first I threw up a little in my mouth. But now it is starting to grow on me. I would add to the family but would not sell to have.

They clearly do not look as good as the previous gen Legacys. We saw one on Monday when we where looking at the Tribecas and I was a little disturbed by how ugly it was. Glad I have a 4th Gen legacy.
What do you guys/girls feel about the current LGT?
Not a fan of the current model. It's become ugly IMNSHO.

It's become too grown up looking, designed for the more executive type person. Wish they made it a little more sporty looking like the 4th gens.
