View Full Version : Bought new speaker.

So I bought some new speakers yesterday. A local stereo shop was moving to a new location and was getting rid of his inventory. I picked these up at a killer deal.

http://www.arcaudio.com/arc-05/speakers/fd_6025.htm

The only problem is our high power head unit puts out at the most 20 watts per ch. I turned the radio all the way up and couldn't even push them. I don't know if I want to get an amp and deal with all the wiring. Thinking of returning them and getting something with less watts requirement.

Any suggestions?

sell it for profit and get whatever, plus change

I don't know now, I've been searching for amps today. Found a few decent ones at a good price. Plus I would need spacers for the front speakers, These speakers are 2.25 deep, just touching the glass.

Decided to keep the speakers and ordered an amp today from Crutchfield. Trying to track down some Dynomat Light to cover the doors.

Question,
For those with amps, where did you place it? I would like to stick it under the pass. seat, but don't know if theres room or not. The trunk is the option.l

There's room under the passenger seat and behind the glove box. Depends on the size of the amp. Do you have dimentions.

I would like to stick it

........note: I refrained from telling you where to 'stick it'!

Dookie

Careful or I'll stick it up your ace.

Dimentions - 11-15/16"W x 2-1/16"H x 10-5/16"D

Bskey

Dimentions are for your amp, right?

Both my seats have sh!t underneath them. One is the navi....I don't know what the other one is. Anywho, I mounted my amp on the back of my speaker box in the trunk......but I am assuming that you aren't planning on getting subs....

Bskey
06-22-2007, 06:30 AM
The other should be the under seat sub.

SubieChik
06-22-2007, 06:38 AM
I would definately notice that :) I don't know, I thought maybe it was for the heated seats or power seats but you guys have those options in the regular GT too so you would have it something under the seat also. I dunno, all I know is that I would notice that sound even if it is 8". I have an ear for bass :D

Bskey
06-22-2007, 07:47 AM
Oh. Well I have a sub under my drivers seat and nothing under the passenger seat. No nav for me :(

Dookie
06-22-2007, 08:52 AM
I'm no longer a bass head, so yes there is no sub. I ordered some dynamat light to cover the doors and using my doors as bass from my 6 1/2's. Did this in my last car and sounded great without the added weight of a sub and additional amps.

I quess when I recieve the amp I'll have to play around with different locations. I just hate running wires all the way to the trunk.

Bskey
06-22-2007, 08:55 AM
I'd like to put one of those custom wheel well sub boxes in the trunk with one 10. That would be more than enough bass for me, and it still looks clean.

SubieChik
06-25-2007, 05:04 AM
I think it is neat when people put the sub in the spare tire compartment.....although I wouldn't do it because the second I take my spare out is the second I blow a tire in the middle of nowhere. I always expect the worse cause I have bad luck

Hmmm..... all my free $$ is going into replacing my clutch right now. $1300 total. Damn!

Dookie
06-26-2007, 01:02 PM
OOOOH Snap.....that much! I hope the setup is worth it. What would happen if you just bought an OEM clutch?

Bskey
06-26-2007, 06:06 PM
If I went back to OEM it's about the same price and less performance. I have heard a lot of good things about this setup, so I have high hopes.

Good luck mang. Let us know how it works out. BTW - do a walkthru for us, I think it would be good for this site.

Dookie

Well at least do a walk thru while you're at the shop. Just ask if you could take pics during the process.

Bskey

Yuppers! Due to my work schedule I cannot be there to take pics at the install. I will say, the guy doing my work, Jayson Black, is highly reccomended. I stepped into his shop today, just him and some Subys; a ton of juicy parts laying around. The guy is #1 reccomended mechanic in Denver, so I am excited about his work. Lastly, he has a totally hottie wife that drives a very nice LGT!

Dookie
06-27-2007, 06:21 PM
At least get :anypics: of the Hottie. Maybe we could put her in the Turkey thread....:D

Bskey
06-27-2007, 06:25 PM
I'll try, but I got to be nice; I'd like to have an established relationship with the mechanic as he is the bomb diggity!

Dookie
06-27-2007, 06:30 PM
At least do me the favor and drop the "D" while your there.

Bskey
06-27-2007, 06:41 PM
Ok. I try to drop the 'D' twice every day!

Sweetness, I hate going into those blindly; I always end up breaking something.

Dookie

I know, the first time I took off the door panels a few weeks ago, I ended up leaving small indentions by the door handle. After figuring it out, it is very easy to remove the panels without leaving any marks or scraches. It takes about 2 whole mins. to do.......that simple.

Bskey
06-28-2007, 03:54 PM
Very nice. I'll have to do it sooner or later when I get the $$ to upgrade my comonent speakers.

I would some how figure out how to take an hour and dent and scratch it every single time.....that's just the way it goes with me.

Over on .com there is a really good walkthrough, plus when I recived my amp from Crutchfield, they included a discriptive walkthrough that any beginner could do. Props to Crutchfield!!

Update, Amp is all wired up and two speakers are in. Didn't have enought time to wire the other two speakers yet. Should be completed by Mon. and I'll post picks and some cool things I did with the install. KICK ASS!!!!

Yeaaaa! Install is complete, but haven't had time to download my pics, I was up until 1:30 AM last night putting the car back together. This car is now a rock'n http://www.landroverforums.com/upfiles/smiley/icon_rock.gif (javascript:void(opener.addSmiley('body1','http://www.landroverforums.com/upfiles/smiley/icon_rock.gif')); self.focus();)http://www.landroverforums.com/upfiles/smiley/icon_rock.gif (javascript:void(opener.addSmiley('body1','http://www.landroverforums.com/upfiles/smiley/icon_rock.gif')); self.focus();)http://www.landroverforums.com/upfiles/smiley/icon_rock.gif (javascript:void(opener.addSmiley('body1','http://www.landroverforums.com/upfiles/smiley/icon_rock.gif')); self.focus();)http://www.landroverforums.com/upfiles/smiley/icon_rock.gif (javascript:void(opener.addSmiley('body1','http://www.landroverforums.com/upfiles/smiley/icon_rock.gif')); self.focus();). Def. no need for a sub, these speakers already vibrate everything in the car.

I didn't take pics of the whole project, just some of the major things I did. I'll up load my pics tonight after work.
