The STI is pretty modded.. with a GT52 turbo and the works.. currently pushing close to 400whp. It was my daily driver.. :-)
The spec B is the replaces it as the daily driver, giving me so more room to go crazy with the STI...

How do you like the GT52? Thinking about putting one of te LGT...one of the options I was considering...

I consider myself somewhat of a GT52 expert.. I've been thru every possible parts combo with this turbo and have a very good idea of what works and wat doesnt...
Its an awesome turbo, I get 22.5psi by 3650rpm... and I got a HF CAT.
A few things you need to keep in mind if ur planning to go with the turbo.
- You need a full 3 inch exhaust without resonators to get the spool.. ANY RESONATORS will hurt performace exponentially..
- You will need either FMIC or Meth to get the turbo into its sweet power range around 21-25psi..I went for an FMIC. With just a TMIC you will NOT be able to go beyond 17-18psi range.
- A free flowing intake is also required.. preferably a 70mm CAI.
With all that in mind, you should hit close to what I'm making with the turbo. Get a 3.5inch exhaust and a bigger FMIC and ur gonna be making 420+ to the wheel.

- I have a full 3 inch exhaust with only mufflers, so that's not a problem
- FMIC is on the way
- CAI is also on the way
I plan on about 400whp daily - should I be able to attain this goal on this turbo with decent headroom?
Also - it comes in 2.4" inlet right? is there a 3" available? Did you do the TGV deletes?

I have my TGVs. and its a 2.4 inlet. No 3 inch option. I am not sure how strong the plastic manifold is, but if i were u, I'd get the STI manifold and some sort of upgraded turbo inlet.. Headers are also a huge help with this turbo... the headers will DEFINATELY get u to the 400whp mark.. add meth, bump psi to 25 and ur well above 450whp.
Now if ur block can handle anything above 400 reliably, then ur lucky. I limited the STI to 400 just for this reason !

I didn't wanna risk anything over 400 either, might tune it even more conservatively for daily, with another ao for 400+.
Would deleting the TGVs be necissary since the inlet is only 2.4? I'll probably get an APS metal inlet so I was wondering I should just go ahead and do the TGV deletes while I have the manifold off. As for the plastic manifold...it's more than up to the task, so I'll be keeping that. :D Headers will probably be done too...just not sure which brand/design yet..

If you got moolah.. go for the Full Race.. but gruppe S works equally well too.
As per my tuner, on a 2.4 in turbo tgv wont do u more that 2-5whp harm at max 10whp, but without tgv, the car will be a ***** to drive off boost.. personally tgv deletes are overrate.. i know a few ppl with rotated turbos who still have their tgvs.

All this turbo talk..... .... nice!
Drift Monkey

I was looking at the full-race, but that is some serious dough! I'll probably get something a bit less...
As for TGVs....I hear 3" inlet turbos require TGV deletes...which is why I was wondering. The GT52 is quite temping though. Does it only come internally gated or can you run external?
Ray_sti
09-26-2007, 11:39 AM
internal gated with a 19psi actuator option. No creep or ANY issues with the turbo so far.. I'm loving it.. I know two other STi's with this turbo, one has a 3.5inch exhaust and puts down about 410whp. The other has meth and pushes 25psi to get ~ 465whp. BOTH have TGVs.
Drift Monkey
09-26-2007, 11:53 AM
Intresting...one less thing to do I guess... Internal is fine as long as it holds boost OK. From the looks of things though, this may be my choice.

trust me.. you wont regret it.. With the STI i first went with an APS TMIC with the GT52 chruning out 19.5 psi. Raced a friends m6, and he could not pass me from a roll upto 135mph... right now he wont even do a run :-)

Thanks man..
So far here are the plans for the 08...
Suspension
Cusco 23m front sway, cusco 22mm rear sway, kartboy endlinks.
That should kill the body roll more or less. I'll do springs next summer.
Power
No plans yet, but i want to keep the tmic setup on this car, so most likely i'll go with a nice 18g-20g setup. DW740 injectors, TBE with the stock mufflers.
Should net me a nice 320-330whp which is more than enuff for a daily driver.
Definately need a short shifter ASAP.. debating on Kartboy or Whiteline...
Dont want to piss off the STI Gods..

I dont think you know what a GT52 is. Its a Stock location turbo made by Element Tuning, and is basically a 20G ported and polished, with 2.5inch inlet ahd a 52lbs/min compressor wheel, and a better hotside.
With proper mods it gets you nicely to 400whp. Add meth and a block that can stand it, it'll get u to 500whp.
35R is a rotated turbo and makes INSANE power, if you have a cosworth block.

damn. i got to drive a STi today.. omg its the most responsive car ever! well.. no room for mistakes, the slightest off on the clutch and the damn thing stalls out.. but definitely fun once you find the sweet spot. its amazing what a difference there is between an LGT auto with a lot of power and a stock STi.
i regret my 5eat purchase.. i know i was the first to get my 08 out over here and already have it modded out like this, but damn i want a freakin spec-B now.
you didn't come out to edgewater today.. wish i can go for a spin in your spec-b.

I was picking between this or a Green, SZ49/55 or a blouch variant....but i'm leaning towards the GT52...

You dont even want to know what happened thursday nite.... I was in VA taking the 6pm flight out, so i could get to the meet by 9... sadly they kept saying that the flight is delayed... and at 11pm the idiots decided to cancel the flight !!! I had a meeting at 8am the next morning in nyc, so i had to rent a car and f**ing drive down to jerz.... got in at 330AM...
I'm gona come by next thursday now...
As for the short shifter, I got a Kartboy.. cant go wrong with them.. I just gotta find time to get it installed....
In other news, the slotted/drilled rotors for my sti came in also.. cant wait to put them on ! Damn... so much to do...

Welcome!
It's nice to see that the TGVs are not recommended because I have been thinking about this like crazy! Thanks for clearing that up...
Where does one get a GT52 and what will I spend? With all supporting mods, will I notice any lag?

Without headers, there is a little lag, but your upper rpms are MONSTROUS... I get 400lb/ft by 4000-4500 rpm and its flat till 6800 to taper for safety..

Lag just means you're not driving in the powerband! ;)
