Need your feedback folks.
Some of you might recall that my brother had 3 of his SSR comps fixed. The lip on two of the rims were bent pretty significantly. The shop did not provide any advice, simply stated we can fix 'em. Well 2 months later, one lip formed a crack and the other bent. No pot hole/curb or anything was hit. Could this happen from cooking the rims too much? It was too late to stop the job when I received warning from this board stating that some bends should not be fixed. :( Just got off the phone with the shop and they said they only heat to 300 to fix and 420 with powdercoating. Of course they said bends/cracks not covered. Any feedback would be appreciated. My brother would have bought new rims if he new this would happen.

sorry to hear that. It's going to be hell getting a shop to own up to anything here; 2 months after the fix. Time to start rim shopping!

Hate to say it...but I told you so. SSRs do not take well to damage beyond a certain point. I know all too well...Unfortunately, the manufacturing process that makes these rims so light makes them super soft also. Almost any heating that is required to straighten significant bends WILL weaken the rims. My bend was very minor to the eye, but the shop I took it to, which has many decades experience in metal repair, just flat out would not repair it, as they said it would not be the same strength as before. The shop that you took it to should have forewarned you, and should have refused the job in the first place. Unfortunately, you really can't do much at this point. Get some stronger wheels next time around...or get some spares...

Thanks fellas. I know NALegacy.:o I wish I would have posted sooner and I would have told my brother. Pisses me off that they did not give him the heads up before fixing them.

On a different note, I hope my SSR comps don't bend!
