Default Have you had a cracked oil pickup tube?

I just got the bad news that my 09 LGT threw a rod bearing :-( I have been hearing stories of engines that have been destroyed because of a crack in the oil pickup tube causing massive, instant, catastrophic oil starvation.

Has anyone had this happen to them? Has Subaru stepped up and made the repair?

If this is a chronic issue, I might try to make a formal (possibly legal) complaint. I would be interested to see if this is really a widespread issue.

Let me know your experience.

Thanks

I remember this issue being spoken of on LGT.com . Not entirely uncommon, but definitely far from common.

Those who have had their pans off for whatever reason typically will take the time to swap out for the Killer B pickup, but it's one of those things where it seems "common" in our community simply because we're more attuned to it (and where else would one go to complain about their bad luck, right? ) - http://www.killerbmotorsport.com/ind...pStory.htmIIRC, there has never been a recall nor even a TSB for this concern.

Does it happen?

Yes.

Does it happen frequently enough for Subaru to really worry about it?

No.

Does it happen frequently enough that enthusiasts/hobbyists will replace this component?

Yes (as you can see yourself on .com, with the participation/replies in your thread, there ).
