Default power with tight budgit

Ok please be kind, not only am I new to the "turbo" world but new to a web sight such as this. I am searching the internet trying to find ways to squeeze out power from my 2005 legacy gt. I am on a limited budget as a family man an this car is my daily driver. i bought this car over a year ago and have spent my time and money into the look of it and now its time for performance upgrades. The only thing I have done performance wise is AEM cold air intake and dynomax muffler swap. It seams as tho everything I find I either dont really understand or involves dropping $500. I am only looking to see if possible to reach close to 300hp from its stock 250hp?

Sell the intake and funnel the funds towards a Cobb AccessPORT. Replace it with the factory unit, with a clean factory filter panel.

This will allow you to reflash the ECU with a map which will provide both better power as well as improve overall driveability.

You will still miss the mark of 300 (crank) horsepower, but you'll do considerably better than stock.

Same-vintage STI power levels (~300 crank horsepower) can be had after you also replace the factory up-pipe and down-pipe with aftermarket (non-catted and at least high-flow cat-equipped, if not also non-catted, respectively) components. In this instance, you will still retain the AccessPORT, but will flash the ECU with a different map.

You can save a considerable amount of money by not going the AccessPORT route and instead going with open-source tuning, but to do this, you will need to make the commitment to learn more about the tuning software/firmware/hardware interfaces. Good online guides are available in the community, but if you're not willing to learn (for whatever reason: I'm not being judgmental - I'm a family man myself, and know how busy it can get ), then the AccessPORT is your best choice.

What if as it stands now put in gutted up and down pipes? would I gain a noticeable increase in power or would I still need a reflash?

Seat-of-the-pants, you'll feel that the car's faster simply because she'll provide a different audible experience.

However, the true gains will be negligible. The reflash is really what unlocks the power.

Also, if you want to keep that intake, you'll need a tune specific to the intake.

Cobb's AccessPORT FAQ will let you know what is acceptable for their "off-the-shelf" reflashes. I'm very hesitant to say exactly what will or will not be acceptable as their official "by Hoyle" line changes every once in a while.

As for the V2 versus V3 differences, we'll need someone who is more up-to-date on the AccessPORT to come in and contribute more in-depth knowledge and know-how, as I'm no longer current in LGT-tech (and besides, I was an ECUTek user while I was at it! ).
