Default Vf52

Import Image Online is sellin VF52's for $795 shipped since they're backordered til April. These r the '09 WRX turbos 4 those who don't know. That's a pretty good price and I'd like 2 have a spare turbo on hand when doomsday comes 4 my VF40. I'm approaching 70k so it's just a matter of time. Direct bolt-in aside from stock turbo heat shields won't work.
I was thinkin about an AVO 380 down the line but this is less than 1/2 the price. Food 4 thought.

My thought is that if you are going to upgrade, then make it worth the time and expense and upgrade.

I'm going with a VF-52 in my 08. The reason I chose it was ease of install, and that it remains factory looking. I hadn't heard that the heatshield would not bolt back up, which kind of sucks.

If my car wasn't warrantied at all, and fully paid off, I would be more interested in going bigger and dropping the TMIC in favor of a FMIC.

Good point. I waited until my warranty had expired until I started serious modding.

I'm not lookin 4 the biggest, baddest turbo out there, I just want somethin that has more power to come on l8r. More power in the mid and high range less in the lower range compared 2 the VF40 which can be a 5EAT killa in stage 2 and above. Also @ that price I don't think there's a better choice, nothin comes close until the price is doubled.

Understood that everyone isn't after what I'm after. How much more oomph would you get from a vf52?

I can't wait to start building a block so I can really take advantage of this gt30. 20psi is nice, but 30 would be SO much nicer.

^ That would be soooo sweet.

This was supposed to be my "summer of big power," building a block (plus all the ancillary support) and going with a GT35.

I opted against it - as this is my true daily-driver, and I need something that's dead reliable.

I think that I'm going to simply "optimize" at "Stage II" for a while, and then, a few more years down the line, go with a built-block (plus proper ancillary support, of course) but mild turbo upgrade, to insure that there will be plenty of built-in "safety" (read: durability/reliability) factor.

According 2 IIO u can get 320 whp w/650's, that would require a fuel pump 2. I obviously won't see 320 w/the 5EAT but I think it will be a nice improvement. They claim 25% increase in whp.

Welcome Jim. So u got the VF52 and u blew your 5EAT? Is it an early hitter like the VF40. What r your trans mods(cooler, VB mod)? Mileage? 650's and a fuel pump? Thanx 4 the info, sorry 2 hear the bad news.

I think it was being stage 2 for about 35K miles. Car wasn't tracked or driven very hard (not launching). Tranny had a tranny cooler for about 15K. Fluid flushes every 15K. Put in the vf52 in december, fueling in February (740cc injectors and AVO fuel pump), 2 days later no 5th gear and lots of neat lights on the dash board. I don't think the vf52 killed it, it just got me there a little sooner than the vf40 would've.

The vf52 comes on a bit later than the vf40 but keeps going up top. Much better turbo. I just don't know if the 5EAT can handle this power level (stage 2 or stage 3) for a long period of time.

What's your opinion if it can handle it w/the VB mod or do u think only a fully built IPT trans like SeeeeeYa had is the only way 2 go 4 peace o'mind?

If you plan on keeping the car, I'd recommend the vb mod even at stage 2 levels. If not then just the cooler and frequent flushes (which I did) but it still went. Just bought me time.

Curious why u went w/740's instead of 650's or something else.

more head room and easier to sell in the future. Not many people go 650cc. They want bigger. Cost me a little more but they'll be easier to unload either to a lgt owner or a wrx owner going with a larger turbo when I part out in the future.

OK so r u just gonna go w/a new trans from a dealership? I think you're on the wrong coast 2 get a trans from IPT which is a shame cuz they're about the same price IIRC.
