Turbocharged 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX Gains 14.28 HP with KN Air Intake Kit
The 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX handles like a rally car with a scoop on the hood for its 2.5 liter four-cylinder intercooled turbocharger engine. Kamp;N has developed an air intake system (69-8004TTK) for the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX with a 2.5 liter engine. Kamp;N dynamometer testing shows a 14.28 horsepower gain at 5228 rpm. The 69-8004TTK features a aluminum intake tube in powder coated black and a Kamp;N carbon fiber top filter (RP-5113). Our lifetime washable and reusable air filter is isolated by a steel heat shield to provide fresh air to the engine.
2008 WRC Rally Japan Means New Gravel Stages
The Subaru World Rally Team will head to the northerly Japanese island of Hokkaido for the last long-haul rally and the penultimate round of the 2008 World Rally Championship season. It is the first time that the new Impreza WRC2008 will be seen in its homeland. Whilst still in Hokkaido, this year sees the rally base move from Obihiro to Sapporo, meaning new gravel stages and a whole new challenge. ?We come to Rally Japan this year with a new car and big expectations on what is effectively our ?home event?? said David Richards, Subaru World Rally Team Principal. ?The change of location for the rally may well prove to be a leveller between the front runners but it?s always been an event that throws up surprises and there?s every chance that both the drivers? and manufacturers? titles could be settled on this rally.?
Award Nomination for the Subaru World Rally Team
The Prodrive and Xtrac designed gearbox used by the Subaru World Rally Team in the all-new Subaru Impreza WRC2008 has been shortlisted for the prestigious Powertrain Innovation of the Year Award at Professional MotorSport World Expo, an annual industry show for motorsport professionals. The Impreza World Rally Car?s gearbox is a six-speed unit that utilises Prodrive?s electro-hydraulic paddle-shift system. It is the only gearbox within the World Rally Championship to retain an H pattern layout similar to that common amongst road cars. This layout makes gear changes faster than a sequential unit, at around 12 milliseconds per shift, and means that drivers are able to select any gear at any time, allowing greater flexibility of use and recovery through block-shifting.
Block wins LSPR, Subaru Rally Team USA Takes Top Spots in 2008 RA Championship
Subaru Rally Team USA driver Ken Block took a decisive win in the final event of the 2008 Rally America season this weekend in Michigan?s upper peninsula to join teammate Travis Pastrana atop the championship standings. ?I?m glad to end the season with the win,? said Block. ?Now I?ve got some momentum going into next year, so I?m happy.? The victory this weekend at the Lake Superior Performance Rally brought Block into second place in the championship, while strong performances all-season long meant Pastrana had already secured the title before this final contest even began. Motocross superstar Pastrana has made an incredible transition from two wheels to four over the past few years and was the season standout this year, taking podium finishes at all but two events. He also scored his second X Games Rally Car Racing gold medal this summer.
Tire Punctures Plague WRC Rallye Tour de Corse
Petter Solberg and Chris Atkinson secured fifth and sixth positions respectively for the Subaru World Rally Team after a trying finale to a tumultuous 52nd Rallye de France Tour de Corse. Lying eighth with two stages remaining, local talent Tirabassi was denied a World Championship point when he was forced to retire on the day?s second stage. Pirelli?s PZero control tyres continued to play a role in deciding the outcome of round 13 of the 2008 FIA World Rally Championship season as a succession of punctures amongst the frontrunners on the incredibly abrasive and uneven roads saw the leaderboard change almost stage-on-stage.
WRC Rallye de France Preview
The French round of the World Rally Championship, on the Mediterranean island of Corsica, is the second asphalt rally in as many weekends and also the last tarmac outing of the 2008 WRC season. Immediately following Rally Catalunya, it forms the second half of the asphalt double-header as the season nears its finale. ?It is perhaps misleading to look at Spain and Corsica as two separate events, because we move from one immediately to the next and it is so important that we continue our learning and progress across both? said David Richards, Subaru World Rally Team Principal. ?We learned some good lessons in Spain, and it is vital that we carry these into this coming weekend?s competition to take a step forward with our performance on tarmac.?

WRC RallyRACC Catalunya Final Report
On the final day of Rally Catalunya, Petter Solberg and Chris Atkinson were locked in yesterday?s tooth-and-nail battles for position, making for a tense finish to the Impreza WRC2008?s second asphalt rally. Frenchman Brice Tirabassi successfully completed his competitive debut with SWRT inside the top ten having delivered an impressive performance on only his second time behind the wheel of the new Impreza. ?It was a solid performance from all three of our drivers today? said David Richards. ?Now the key is to build and improve on this as we go to Corsica in only one week?s time.?
Rally America Wrapping Up the 2008 Season at Lake Superior Performance Rally
The 2008 Rally America national Championship season ends with a traditional fall classic, the Lake Superior Rally in Michigan?s rugged upper peninsula. With fast gravel roads, deep rutted sand, the likelihood of snow, and even a tarmac stage thrown into the mix, the Lake Superior Performance Rally (LSPR) is representative of all the elements rally drivers face throughout a rally season!
