suspension too stiff...what can i do?

hi,

i am a newbie here and just purchased a 2011 3.6 legacy(i can't drive a stick). anyway i love the car as a whole but i feel the road a bit too much for my taste (use to driving volvo and acura). what are my options as far as smoothing out the ride?

thicker tires?
changing shocks?
changing springs?

please be specific with recommendations if you can. i realize that most here are trying to get stiffer but i truly want to go in the other direction...i love the way the outback rides as a reference

The low-profile tires are part of this. Running a taller/wider tire will help a little. What's your factory wheel size? If you go down in wheel (as long as a smaller wheel will fit over your brakes), then you can run an even larger tire and it will definitely make a difference. If the ride is still too stiff, you've gotta look at aftermarket springs with a lower-than-stock spring-rate. Shocks/struts are more about about controlling the rebound of the springs, so I wouldn't worry about changing those when dealing with ride quality specifically.
