Default Questions about legacy

Ok so I have been looking for a new car for a bit now. I want an AWD with a turbo. So I looked at Volvo s60r's they seem to have bevel gear problems with their AWD amongst other things. Looked at audi. S4 seems to be plagued with problems same thing for a4 great awd system but many problems. STI out of my price range. So I am here now. Legacy seems like a good platform. Suby is reliable AWD and turboed.

Now my questions are. What is the DL on these cars. What can go bad how much of repairs need to be done. Etc etc. I need the down and dirty. Also are they easy to work on, mod, etc. I see their resail value is nice you can get 70k and under miles for less than 12k. My budget is actually right at that.

Let me know everything that I should know about legacy!! Also verify for me which legacy have turbo and which dont from the 4th gen. I am kind of confused on that. I believe all Legacy gt have turboes??!.

Welcome to the forum.

4th gen Leagcys
All 2.5 GTs are turbo (Hood scoop)
All 2.5 are non-turbo (No hood scoop)

First year of the 4th gens ('05) had some issues with turbos and cooling fan relays. By now most of those owners would have fixed those issues by now. Subaru had fixed these issues with the '06 + models.

The LGTs consumes oil, on average about a half a quart every 1k miles, which is normal for these cars. Must check this on a regular bases, because once the oil light comes on it's too late and there could be turbo or engine damage.

IMO, these cars are fairly easy to work on if you're mechanicly inclined. The mods you can do to these cars are endless, and I don't know any members that is driving these cars stock. Once you start modding, it's hard to stop.

Good luck with your search.

Only if you mess with them. Otherwise, gaskets are good and there is no single common issue.

Gasket Problems- yes. Subaru's are known to be leakers in the higher mileage. Headgaskets still will leak with age as well.
Wheel bearings- These are known to be bad but SOA did change the design on these.
Catalytic Converters- These tend to suck.
