Default My First Subie

I am absolutely loving this car. I wonder what the quarter mile time for my 05 gt auto... I wonder what that extra key is that doesn't start the car is for, but my wife put it on her key chain anyway...

Extra key is probably a key that matches the one that starts the car, but it was just a generic copy that isn't "chipped". Our keys have an anti-theft chip in them that allows the car to start (why they're thick). The car has to see the appropriate chipped key to start. If you have an aftermarket remote start system installed, that will include installing your chipped key in the dash. You can then use any key to start the car, including your "extra" key.

1/4 mile should be in the low 13's.

Welcome to the forum.

Correction: Stock '05 LGT Auto will do low to mid 14's in the quarter. Going Stage II will drop close to a second off your quarter mile.

I carry a spare "flat" key - one with no chip - in my wallet...just in case I ever accidentally locked myself out.

Funny thing happened on the way into work yesterday. After only 8 days of having my Legacy, I was rear ended while sitting at a red light. I was less than a hundred feet from work. The estimate came back at $5300.00. Iwill get my car back in about 2 weeks. Pics to come. I am really really sore. other than that I'm mostly pissed.

How's the frame in the back? Looks mostly cosmetic.

That's good, hopefully there shouldn't be an issue with drivability. Hope you can get it back on the road soon.

yeag it could be worse. Luckily my boys weren't in the car. Neither the driver of the dump truck nor myself suffered any broken bones. My neck and back still hurt, but what ya gonna do.

I sure miss my car though.

So what do you guys use for oil (weight and brand) I'm gonna be due for a change when I get my car back. My nephew has an 02 WRX and uses Royal Purple. So I was thinking of using 5w30 of that. What oil filters do you use? My car came with a K&N air filter, so I have that going for me, which is nice. What is the mileage interval you go by?

It seems everyone has their own take on oils and their recommended changes, but the most important thing for our cars is routine oil level checks. The LGT turbos consume oil like crazy, and the majority of us use about a quart a month or every 1000 miles. The #1 failure on our engine is oil starvation to the turbo, so check, check, check the levels on a regular bases.

My brand of choice is Shell Rotella t6 5w40 - for the test results and price.
Filter - Pur 1
Intervals - every 6,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. It's my way of staying up on regular maintainance.

Having read through and participated in countless oil threads, I've come to the conclusion that, for the price, there's nothing better than Valvoline. I use 5W30 in the winter, and 10W30 in the summer. I change every 3K if I can; not because the oil is spent, but because the filter loses its effectiveness.

German Castrol 0w30 and Purolator Pure 1 filters. I was a Mobil 1 fan up until this car, which developed an appetite for Mobil 1. The Castrol seemingly acted as an appetite suppressant.
