Aussie Dave -

How's the job-market for physicians - pediatricians and/or adolescent-medicine specialists, in-particular? Has socialized medicine impacted their compensation?

How's the market for skilled scientific research laboratory technicians/laboratory managers?

The wifey and I are actually thinking of doing a few years abroad so that we can expose Anna to different cultures. China keeps popping up, but I've always wanted to see Australia.

^ I miss the food. OK, so I'm Taiwanese by birth (Chinese ancestry, though, on both sides, first-generation there, too), but I figure that'll be close enough for me to get my hands (and jaws) on all the goodies I miss so much!

Fortunately I work for a VERY ethical and well managed company. I am not concerned for my job as I am one of 3 people in the company who can do what I do, and they need 5 or 6 to effectively get our work load done. However, it has been an interesting ride financially over the last month. If you in Aussie are having a housing boom, I hope they are watching the concequences of an over inflated real estate market so you all can avoid all this crap we are going through.

Me too. Born in Iowa so I was raised on steaks, chicken, corn, potatos, and watermellon.

My wife and I butt heads all the time because she thinks my food is blan, and she was raised on traditional Phillipino foods. Such as stinky fish, blood pudding...etc.

Blood Pudding is the english name for this dish. It's a stew that's cooked in pigs blood. Very salty and nasty.

Mate you would be what we call a Walk Up Start! Physicians, lab techs, etc are in huge demand and compensation is very good here in Perth and any other part of Oz. We have a very mixed culture here in Oz, lots of Asians, Euros, etc..a real melting pot. Hong Kong / China is a 6 hour flight from Perth.

Mate our financial markets pay a price for having a piece of the US Sub Prime action but they don't play those games in general here. No loans for people with poor credit. You also don't have a tons of people tryijng to pull money out of over valued homes. We have watched America for a long time and tend not to make the same mistakes, well except for war that is.
