I'm glad you guys learn from our mistakes.

Aussie Dave - Bro, you should be paid by your country's tourism and "recruitment" division.

I'll pass-along this info. to the wifey....I think she's more than half serious.

Who knows, maybe we'll be neighbors one of these days! Thanks for the info!

I am happy to assist but it won't be a good fit for USDM Legacy I am afraid. The front bumper and bonnet (hood) are different size than JDM or AUS cars.

Dave, how can I tell if they're different sizes? Don't the cars built in the US use the same press as the ones in Japan?

no afraid that is not the case. US Legacy front bumpers must be bigger to meet regs in the USA.

True, just confirmed that with a very reliable sourse, different hood and differnt bumper for the 25T model(current Legacy). That is very interesting.

Resonator removed and HKS Panel Filter installed last week. More audible intake and bov sounds and improved breathing I reckon.

ok well short sweet then. Resonator removal is dead easy now, just two bolts and you can wiggle the airbox out of the way and get direct access to the white plastic resonator simple as. HKS Filter sits in box like a sandwich and takes two minutes to install if that. Did the two bolts back up and finished.

Results you can now here the air induction much better and the factory bov as well. In terms of performance I would say it is minimal at best but every little bit helps.

^ I've sadly lost-track of the Open-Source tuning stuff ops: (just not enough hours in the day, unfortunately), but I know that at one point, the "commercial" (i.e. people who would sell "canned," semi-custom, or even e-tune maps) Open-Source tuners did typically specify "intake resonator removal" as a part of their map parameters. It seems that either keeping this part on or taking it off will induce some very, very slight differences on the intake side of the equation, but exactly what that difference may contribute to, no-one really knows.

There's been a lot of debate as to exactly what the resonator does - aside from the known fact that it helps keep intake-tract noise from intruding into the vehicle cabin - and what taking it off/leaving it on may mean in terms of performance. But to the best of my knowledge, no-one has quantified the issue.

I view it as a "do it if you like it" mod.

edit: still to decide if I am going to install some piping down in the wheel well to get more cold air into the box.
